I have read in the "1936 Chevrolet Engineering Features" that the 36 Standard had black headlight housings while the Master had housings matching the body color. Is that correct? I don't recall ever seen a Standard that had black headlight housings. Or maybe I'm never seen a Standard.

The head light housings were chrome on a Master and body color on a Standard.....no exceptions. You may have misunderstood what you read or were in the truck section.

Hi Gene, I got another question. Can the chrome headlite buckets on my master be repaired? They are dented from years of the hood hitting them. One has a small crack in it. Thanks, Dave

Hey Nick, I have a '34 Standard and the headlights, fenders and running boards are black, and the rest of the body is 2 tone tan.Isn't the engineering great when hitting the headlights with the hood is easier then missing them!

The Master head lamps were brass with chrome plating.I suppose they could be repaired at a price but the problem that I had is that the brass tended to crack in the rechroming process. An alterative would be is to find a Standard head lamp and have it chromed. The steel lamps held up better and the hood didn't bend them. The same lamp was also used on 1937-39 trucks.

I've had two pair of brass buckets ('34, '35) repaired by two different shops. Both took a lot of time and a lot of money, but the results were very good. I've not had the cracking problem that Gene mentioned (knock wood!). I had tried repairing on bucket just to see if I could lead it up and the results weren't too bad. I suspect your 'small crack' will pose less of a risk of cracking than a large repair. I suggest you take you buckets to several shops and ask for their opinions and prices, if they will quote the repairs. Look at samples of other brass repairs; note that some shops 'outsource' repairs on brass, so ask how each one does it. My last repair was done on a time and material and 'best effort' basis, but they were in rough shape. A year ago I recall paying about $600 for just the buckets...at least that's what I told my wife!
