Can anyone tell me if these 2 bumpers take the same size bumper guards?

I believe that you will find that the bumper on the 1953-54 curves back more on top-its deeper. I have never seen 1949-52 guards on a later bumper or the 1953-54 on an aearlier and am resonably sure they will not fit correctly.

I guess I can't prove they aren't interchangeable in that I've never tried - or - seen it done. But I'd bet a lot they aren't. Certainly don't buy until you try. But I don't think it'll work out.

Just thought that I would pop in with a note. The 52 bumper guards on the steel station wagons were short and narrow at the top to allow clearance for the tail gate. This was changed by 1954. So, no the bumper guards would not be the same.

The '49-'52 wagons used the shorter stock 1949 guards on the rear. The 1953 wagon had a short version of the stock 1953 guard and the 1954 has a short version of the 1954 guard.

Ron / Babe Grand,
I guess I was just curious. I've been looking for a good 54 'tin woody' to buy for some years now. Do you know of any for sale???

Bill, there is a 53 or 54 on ebay at the moment. Looks honest and is in CA. Brown in color. Alot of 53 and 54 cars come up on ebay. Not so many 49-52. I personally would like to find a 49 wood and 49 tin to take to shows. How cool would that be to have the pair side by side? I bought my 51 on ebay last year from NM and couldn't be happier. No rust or rot. That's pretty much all we have here in NJ(rust!) My 51 has been a pleasure! Good luck.

Ron, Good to hear your 51 woody ebay purchase worked out. Seems like a lot of ebay car purchases aren't that way. Your idea of the two 49's is really something! That sure would be fun! And a real education for those who don't know about 'tin' woodies. Thanks for the idea that there's a 53 or 54 on ebay. Unfortunately, I'm a lousy 'searcher' on ebay. All that I've been able to find is this 53 Woody Wagon It sounds awfully nice; but I'd rather have a Chevy. Prefer 54; but the right 53 would be OK. Do you have anymore info on the 53/54 you mentioned?? Bill.

Hey Ron,
Thanks for the info on the 54 in CA. I'm sure I've checked on this car before. Interesting it has Oregon tags; I don't remember the story on that. Not sure I've seen it, altho it seems like maybe I have. Grass Valley is near Sacramento/Auburn - sort of on the way to Reno, if I go that way. Anyway, as you know, it's a 210 and so it's not a 'real' tin woody. There's a 53 210 locally that's been painted up to look like a woody that I've been trying to buy for 3-4 years. I'll stick with that one.
Just on the off chance you're interested, I made what I thought was a good "best offer" on the 53 Pontiac on ebay. He countered with $65k. HA. There won't be a 53 Pontiac in my garage anytime soon! At least not that one.
Just curious; is the one you bought on ebay pretty much done, or are you restoring it??
Thanks again for the info on the 54. It would have taken me a long time to find it. I wasn't thinking about 'completed' auctions.
Bill.

Bill, the one I bought on ebay was a straight original car from NM. It was last registered in 74 and looked like it was parked in a garage. I replaced the necessary glass (kept the few pieces with minor chips) had to fix 3 holes in the floor where rain had dripped from bad seals. That was the only rust. The rockers, frame body et.c were near perfect. The car was running with a new clutch when I got it and the tank was cleaned. I took it to Maaco for a driver, not show paint job (52 Buick apache red) I found newly upholstered seats on ebay a week after I bought my car along whith freshly chromed bumpers. The fellow gave up on his 52 wagon. My woodgrain is minwax gel coat (about 1 hour and a brush) doesn't look half bad. So you see, my car isn't a 65k show stopper, that is why I'm able to afford the other 6 projects in the garage. The wagon runs, drives, stops like a Timex watch. I need to check on a couple of guages and install the headliner. That's about it. Getting long winded....
