I am looking at a 32. There is a fluid leak that appears to be at the driveshaft into the differential. Can someone describe how this is repaired? Is it a seal? Kind of new to this. Regardless, TIA Tom

There is a paper gasket that goes between the machined flanges on the torque tube and the rear axle housing.

my 30 roadster pickup leaked profusly at the torque tube/differential to axle housing mating surface. the old gasket was paper thin and useless. i removed the tube/differential from the axle housing and made a new gasket out of thicker gasket material. no leaks now. while you have the torque tube/differential housing out of the car and on a workbench, now's the time to install a new neoprene seal at the front of the torque tube as the old cork seal is almopst certainly dysfunctional. filling station sells them. ya might as well replace the axle bearings with the sealed variety also available from filling station.mike

Hi tom r,

Before you do any disassembly you should clean the area with solvant so you can make sure where where it is leaking. You may find that it is leaking at the rivits that connect the torque tube to the front of the differential. It could also be leaking at the three bolts that hold the pinion bearing. So, you need to know for sure WHERE.
