My windshield is broken in too many pieces to be used as a pattern. Does anyone have a windshield pattern for a 31 five window coupe?
Also, I need to make sure I have all the other parts necessary to mount it. The glass has metal channel on 3 sides, and I have the regulator assembly (with knob)as well as a new piece of wood to mount it on, and garnish moldings. Are there any other parts required? I've looked through the parts listing and repair manual, and that appears to be all. It just looks like there ought to be more to it. Thanks.

6wheel--sounds to me like you have all the parts except the seals. If you could carefully take the windshield apart and reassemble it like a puzzle on a flat cardboard you could make a pattern, all 31 & 32 closed cars are the same if someone has a pattern. Is your new piece of wood just like the original? don`t forget to use new vacuum hose for your wiper motor. Also, be sure to lubricate the regulator assembly and gear box. I used lithium and no problems so for.

According to the glass specifictions, the 1931 windshield for the closed models (except cabriolet) is 14" x 42". The windshield for the 1932 closed models (except cabriolet) is 16" x 44". 1931 and 1932 are not the same. However, the windshield glass for 1929 thru 1931 is the same.

wink :)

6wheel,
Vintage Glass 1-800-889-3826 I believe has the patterns for this. They advertise in Hemmings.
I have the glass out of my 1929 conv. landau sedan but do not know if this would fit. Skip is the bottom curve the same on this as well as the 1931? If it is the same size I could trace and send it to you.

You have a 1929 convertible landau sedan? Man, there is another one! ha ha! Anyway, could you post the body number and the car serial number here for our research? It would be greatly appreciated!

According to the glass specifications, the bottom curve on a 1929 windshield is different than a 1931 even though the windshield dimensions are the same.

:( sick :/

6wheel,
Vintage Glass 1-800-889-3826 should be able to help you out.

As far as the 29 conv. landau goes, 20 years ago I had a list of about 40 cars and part cars that Loren Gardner had compiled. Since then I have seen about 30 more cars for sale in different parts of the country. A museum in Norwich, NY has one with a sign saw it is one of a few left. It becomes quite a joke when you tell people there are many more than that still around but they won't hear it. It's 11:35 here and I get up for work around 4:30-5:00.

Did the glass in a 31 chevy originally have any markings on it, like a bow tie or a date of manufacture? I know that F--- cars had a script and a date.

I could make a paper templet for you, fold it up and mail in a large envelope. I have the original windshield from my 31 coupe. If you think that would work.

if you want to spend a lot of money use some one elses glass or pattern if you want a job that is correct make a pattern of the opening you want to fit even the side glass . the windshield bottom has to fit the bottom seal to keep the water out the body book said to grind the glass to fit all cowls are not the same shape . i did it the hard way the first time and wasted a lot of time and money the glass co. will not take it back if it does not fit . even after a new wood job the side window or door openings may not be exactly the same as before so this needs to be checked before the new glass is cut . hope this helps

6 wheel, I agree with pushrod. I would take the paper pattern and make one out of masonite and try the fit. Waiting for your email.

I have original glass in mine with no markings. But you will want to use safety glass and not plate as original.

Thanks guys, I plan to use a paper pattern and make one out of masonite and try the fit. After making sure it works properly, then my friend in the auto glass business can make me a windshield out of safety glass with no markings.
