Okay gang; let’s see if we can get this Tech Talk to work as it was designed. I am in receipt of an article written by Chip. He has filled in the blanks on his chart as far as he can go and is submitting his work here for both verification and for your help in “filling in the blanks” on the missing information. If you can provide any of the missing information you may post it here or send it to Chip.

Last night I found a 345561 in my stuff. (number cast in back of flange) It is 3 15/16" D, 7/8" T, and 1 1/16" W. It has three spokes of a wedge design similar to the 26 crank pulley.
There is a typo in the list. All early pulley bores were 5/8" straight with 1/8" key. I ran on to something interesting as I was going through all of my generators. On one of my engines (26-28) I have a solid pulley. I dismissed it due to its size, but it did remind me of when I was looking for a pulley for my first car (about 67-68). I only had a broken pulley to go by. It was probably a 346745, anyway an oldtimer told me that I was looking for the wrong pulley. He said that 26's came out with a solid one. I did not ever get this confurmed or disputed. As I was looking for the 28 parts book the other night I found a sales pamplet that I'd forgotten about. ( Form ADV. 22286-3-926) For you that have not seen this one, it folds out to show different views of parts of the 26. It shows a stop light, spark and throttle on top of the steering wheel, but when it comes to the power unit there is no transmition crossmember shown. It may have been left off for clarity or these two views may be of the early power unit. In the front view of the power unit is shown a solid generator pully that is a spitting image of the one I have. Sence Chevrolet was new to belt driven generators did Delco-Remy (or should say Remy)supply a pully that was used somewhere else, did chevrolet use one from another department of GM, or was the artist just to lazy to paint in spokes? This pulley turns out to be smaller than 345561 so size is in the ballpark. I am going to lable this pulley "VERY HIGHLY SUSPECT" and only supply sizes and casting numbers to stir comments. 3 5/8" D, 15/16" T, 1 1/8" W. casting number 49647 2 LB. Has anyone heard of anything like this?

Thanks to all who contributed to the discussion and corrections. I don't know how I got the 1/2" diameter listed for the whole (shaft) diameter instead of the correct 5/8". Guess it was those darn literary gremlins. Is that an oxymoron?

For those who are interested. I recently purchased a pulley on ebay with the part number 364986 and GM in raised numbers and letters on the back side. It measures 3 27/32" Diameter, 7/8" wide and 1 5/16" Thick. Application is: '33-'35 Truck - High Speed (931M, 931S, 967E generators).

There are many articles buried here that could be tweaked and edited a little and would make excellent articles for the G&D. Would make a good winter project. :)

Ray and Chip,
Is this intended to be one of the new "technical articles" that will be published in the future?

Gene,
I tried to only list the pulleys that fit the diagram. I did include a couple with attached fans but felt it was another article as they do not appear the same as those without the fan. My basic motivation was because I decided to do the research and be able to carry the chart to swap meets or when I was looking for the correct pulley to put on a generator prior to putting on a vehicle. Thought that others might also want to know what pulley went on each vehicle. Since after market pulleys may not have any numbers I put the dimensions in the chart.

I agree with Gene. And, I've been thinking for a long time that info on the chat site would make good tech articles for the G and D. I've started to print stuff from the site, but haven't figured out how to file it yet. That thread about the rocker arm shafts and bolts is one that I printed. It was so good that I had to.....Thanks Gene!
