Subtitle: More than I wanted to know about "snot". A valuable tool for the workshop, if used correctly. On the left is the YELLOW snot. It should only be used to seal in liquids other than modern gas. Excellent for dipping bolt threads in to assemble such items as transmissions, oil pans, and rear ends and like items. In the center is the WHITE snot. This snot can be used for the same purposes and will also resist modern gas. Most likely use would be relining gas tanks, vacuum tanks, any gas line fitting, and like items. On the right is the newly discovered RED snot. This can be used for all the situations mentioned above. In my limited use it is preferred over the other two.

Was just going to ask , What's the real name for "white snot"? Now I know, Thanks.
I think I'm a fairly wise person because I'm smart enough to realise I'm not too bright.

But......sometimes when the gas tank sealer fails it does look like something that comes out of your nose! I've seen it happen twice so far, and the sealer did look like "snot" each time when it was removed from the fuel filter. :( :( :( :(

Is there anything that can be done with a tank that was coated with yellow "snot"? I have one that I coated years ago and put up, would hate to lose it.

Hi gaby, Yes, the old (and new) lining can be removed with M.E.K. (Methyl Ethyl Ketone). Very shortly I will be making a first hand report on removing an older lining. The same fellow owns the vehicle that I provide support to with his fleet of vehicles. Unfortunately, you will not be able to ride along on my next venture, as the vehicle is a large truck with a four-letter brand name. The plan is to remove the tank on my next trip. This tank is lined with the old "Yellow" snot and with the use of the new fuel with alcohol it has softened the lining, which is dissolving, and constantly plugs up the fuel filter and carburetor.

Update on snot real world names. I searched through the forums looking for the brand names of yellow and white snot because Ray's photo at the top of this thread is no longer visible.
White snot seems to be Bill Hirsch's alcohol resistant gas tank sealer.
Yellow snot might be KBS Tank sealer Gold standard, but I'm not sure.
