jyd, the truck looks good...but I think it's not as original as it was first made out to be...that's why I was hoping you could give it a look-see, if you had time, and save me a lot of questions later...let me know... I headed up to our "blue bell blue" lake now... epi

Sure, be glad to, and I also have a buddy of mine who is way deep into 1940 pickups. Are you still in this area and if so, where are you now?

As long as this thread is on 1931 paint, :p I have a question. My paint code is 69 for my '31 coupe and according to Bill's site it was Bolling Green and Apple Green. The color now is brown and when I sanded through a spot on the front fender and below the windshield I came to a blue after the brown and then a rust colored brown and then bare metal. Was there a brown for the '31 or do you think it was repainted from the bare metal up? I've had it since 1961. Any picture I find on the site or any book are all one color. A picture of a two tone Green sure would be helpful. Maybe on the new site some of you guys are working on to post pictures. Thanks

Jerry, There were a couple of brown used in '31, but they were used as moulding colors, Except for Coffee Cream, which is a beige. It looks like my Avitar. I think John McTaggart in Wallingford VT has one in Bolling Green, I've seen it up close and personal, Beautiful color. Unfortunately he is not on line, and I don't have a picture. It is possable yours was striped to bare metal and repainted. I wish I could help more. Dan.
Together we can do anything. The impossible just takes longer.

jyd, glad you liked the truck... I know you keep harping on restoration of it because it has only 21,000 original miles, but we still plan to chop three inches out of the top, drop a 'vette motor on a nova front end, and maybe shorten the wheelbase by 18"... epi

Thanks Dan. that gives me something to go on. I'm almost down to the frame now so the painting is a ways off yet. Jerrygolf

I want to paint my truck a deep rich burgundy color. what color combinations do you suggest? I plan to compliment the running boards with a black. Can I paint the wheels to burgundy or do you think that would be too gaudy?

Good question. My truck came without a cowl tag. The only insight I have to the "color" is that the inside of the cab is painted kelly green. The rest of the truck is painted in primer. It looks like I have decorated it in "early dumpster".

Blue Bell Blue was the standard truck color. Trucks have no color ID on the cowl tag. Paint combination numbers are only on Fisher bodies including Sedan Delivery. Why not use one of the sedan colors like Boulevard Maroon or Harvard Crimson?
If you have old Chevrolets, other old Chevrolets will find out where you live.

31 truck, go to the demo photo site ( http://www.123testing.com) and checkout chevrolet's 30 roadster pickup... I asked Chevy Chip if it looked like Blue Bell Blue, he say's it looks like it. I have collected a few modern approximations, if you like I'll E-mail them to you (they came from Bill Barker and Lou (don't know Lou's last name)). Even though I really don't like blue, or the color these are, I've decided to paint mine as original.

31 truck & lenn, our '30 roadster delivery is blue bell blue, painted by the chevy motor division during their restoration of it...but the radiator shell & wheels should be black to be correct to original... epi
