Sammy post in another category reminded me...

Quote
This past weekend I was working on the doors of my 63 Suburban and stuffed waaaay down but not yet at the bottom was a small throw pillow. By what it took to get it out it was easy to see that it had been there since new!
When restoring my '55 (2nd) pu I found an old Coors 'church key' in the bottom of the cab corner on the driver's side...restored it too…

Found a welding tip inside the driver’s door of a vehicle I bought new...finally found that rattle...lol...

What have you guys found?

I found a condom in the package under the gas tank in my 53 truck. I thumb tacked it to the wall of my shop and it is quite a conversation piece. bigl bigl

In cleaning Old Blue ('37 1/2 ton) I found part of a lumber yard receipt dated 1937, the month couldn't be read very well but I think it was December. It must have been from the first owner. They'd bought some lumber and nails at a place in Oakland, CA. The receipt was wedged between the gas tank and the seat support. The paper was brittle and unfortunately in pretty bad shape.

In a 42 BK I once owned I found under a half inch of country road dirt in the back of the cab 2 Mercury head dimes, a 1941 & 1942. they were tarnished but in excellent condition. when I sold the truck to the original owner's son I gave him the 42 dime.

This thread reminds me of an old Rodney Dangerfield routine where he talks about buying a used car and finding one of his wife's dresses in the glove box. Poor Rodney just couldn't get no respect.

My father used to tell the story that while working as a mechanic for a Pontiac dealership he was given a car to check because the customer complained that something stinks inside the car.
He checked under the seats for something dead but it wasn't until he pulled off the door panels that he found the problem.
The smell was from an old sandwich stuffed into the door at the factory.

I have had customers complaing of rattles but in 1 case I found a empty coke bottle in the rail under the doors (sill rail). It had to have put there when the car was built as there isnt any holes it could fit through, it took some finding.

Here is a funny story two members went to the auction yard one day and they both bought a car each with the first lending the second $400. to assist his purshase. the second man said he will pay it back as soon as he goes to the bank and the first agreed. that afternoon the second man with his $400. went to the first mans house to pay him back . upon arriving the car was in the yard and was being cleaned with no sign of the first man so the second man placed the money under the carpet and thought that he will phone the first man later that evening, a little while later the first man returned and continued cleaning his new purchase when he found a bundle of cash under the carpet ,so excited he raced inside to tell his wife and the two of them decided to go out on the town and have a good night .
Well they found a very good and expensive restaurant and the first man told his wife she could order what ever she wanted , just after finishing and contemplating desert ,the second man rang the first on the mobile phone and explained that he missed him that afternoon and left the money under the carpet .Well I think that you can guess the rest the phone line went quiet and the wife is still waiting for desert.
this is a true story and happened to two of our members.

When we restored the wood in my '31 Coach, we found a 1910 Barber dime sitting inside one of the countersunk holes in the passenger-side main sill assembly. We also found a very old, child's toy golf club, wedged behind the rear cross sill.

Hidden in the back seat springs of my 1964 C 10 3/4 ton Fleetside I found an envelope with four old large style $20 bills. I still have them.

More stuff was recently discovered under the gas tank in Old Blue ('37 half ton). There was a 1937 buffalo head nickle and a 1919 wheat penny, assorted nuts and bolts, pencils and part of an old receipt book from a dairy in Gardena, Ca.

I bet that back in 1937 that someone looked a good while for that nickle and penny, that was a good allowance for a kid back in those days....

I fully agree. I heard some true stories in my youth about people wanting their children (us) to dig, plant, weed etc. "voluntarily" in the garden. Easy enough if you let go some smallvalue coins around on the surface of the soil. It never failed said the adults. :) :(

"I'll clean out your car if I get to keep the change I find!" I have heard that before! When i was a kid,I used to work in a Sinclair service station, we checked the oil & water, aired up the tires, washed the windshield & windows, used a whiskbroom and sweap out the floor of the customers cab while they were being filled up, we would return any money we found, usually the well-to-do customers would let us keep what we found.

Not sure how old it is, but I found under the back seat of my 36 Master a button of steam boat willy (the old Micky Mouse). I know its old because on the back of the button is a notch that you would attach to the button on your shirt. on the side of the button, very small letters it says Walt disney publishing

Along those same lines of "unique" things found in vehicles, years ago Moron Mikey and I tore down a 1931 engine for a friend of ours. Against my advice this friend had sent his engine to those dudes in the LA area that make those "questionable" pistons to have it rebuilt. When the engine was returned he suspected something was wrong because the engine had come back just as greasy and dirty as when he had sent it down to the LA area to get rebuilt. Not to go into a lot of details about the quality of work done on the engine (that would take a book), we suggested that the engine should be disassembled and inspected so that he could document what work had been done or not done to the engine. For starters, as we totally disassembled the engine, we discovered a large mouse nest in the intake manifold. Anyway, that isn't the "unique" thing that we discovered. When we removed the oil pan (and yes it had been recently removed and reinstalled because there were brand new pan gaskets used) an empty beer can fell out of the oil pan........and it still had the remains of some liquid refreshment in it!

drink drink drink wink

i bought a 40 Chevy COE from the estate of the 2nd owners about 15 years ago. the COE was originally a road tractor(knew the original owner). the 2nd owners mounted a Holmes boom (took it off a 1917 Packard touring car)on the old 40 in 1952. the 2nd owners had an Esso station near our farm which they closed up in 1962. the estate guys hung on to the old COE from 1962 till i bought the chevy in about 1990. once i drug the old COE home , i began my "archeological" inspection of the old girl. behind the seat, i removed about 30 empty pint bottles of Echo Springs hooch. anytime i buy an old relic, i look foreward to the "archeologic dig". mike

I worked part time at a auto wrecker yard, they had a list of parts they wanted off each car and any extras were open pickings for the boys in the workshop. In the boot of 1 car I found $500 and a nice little pile of about $500 worth of tools which ended up in my box. A good days pay considering I was getting $100 in hand pay.
