Absolutely! And, if all of Macky Wacky's "Jay Leno Wanna Be" postings were deleted also then there should be plenty of space on Chevy Chatter for other cool stuff.

Naw.....he is probably cool with it. wink

Besides, as mentioned earlier, there is a lot of storage space that probably could be gained if all of the postings, say 90 days old, or older were deleted. The same is true for the one-liners as well....that is if storage space is a definite problem for the site.

Yeah, I meant ALL postings over 90 days old especially mine! Just keep 43Bills (I even gave him a promotion!) at least those that have a redeeming or historical, or highly technical Value! wink

Guys:
I am all for saving space but would we lose the archived technical info too with a 90 day delete? I have referred to these numerous times and found them helpful. I have even avoided having to ask a newbie question because someone else has already asked and it's been answered. I usually go the search button to pull any info that might be available before I trouble you guys. I agree I could go in and copy or download these, but so far I have not been able to predict what kind of info I'd need. So I'd pretty much need to download or copy the whole kit and caboodle. Maybe we could suggest selected "folders" for periodically cleaned, but keep the technical stuff?

Just my 2 cents.

Your point is well taken and that is a tough one. The technical information is very important and it should be saved or archived if Chevy Chatter does run low on storage space, but who would have the time to go through all 85,000 plus postings to pull out the good stuff? Maybe Billy Boy Barker can "enlighten" us on this one.

The TECH TALK was set up to archive the GOOD STUFF. I try to consolidate any group of info that is worthy of keeping, and try to move it into TT, but just when it gets interesting, it becomes polluted with BS. I don't have the time to pick the black spots out.

In response to a wish to have a place to do business, I will offer the real time chat function on a web site I have. To be used as a "Club House".

If you would like access to this area please ask RGWiz for the link via e-mail.

This will probably not have the capability of keeping a record for future use. I'll see how it works out as time goes on.

Dan.

KDan, that sounds great, if we can keep the chit-chat to items concerning charter business that will be great. Are you going to regulate the availabily to members of The Chapter?

Yes, that is the idea for dumping anything over 90 days old. "Archived stuff" you wish to archive, just do it on your computer, after all who is ever going to be able to please everyone that wants someone else to store information just upon the chance you may want to take a peek?

You should have an idea of what topics you may want to archive, do a search and save the good stuff to your hard drive or a CD.

Mack,
What I had in mind was to have RGWiz disclose the link to the members he has on the list. This is a real time chat room, not a forum like we have here, therefore the "BS" would be similar to what you get in a normal face-to-face meeting, with one exception.........everyone can type at once and conversation can get confusing. My thought was to be able to have real time meetings there, or just a place to meet and chat keyboard to keyboard.

Dan contacted me yesterday and offered this service. I think it's a good idea. Chat Chapter members would have to agree on a date and time of the day to meet. Not easy, but could work for discussing business stuff like dues, or voting. It also could be used for the Chapter Officers to meet.
I still feel that all other posts should stay where it all started, right here on good ol' VCCAChat.org.
No hiding!

The real time chat is an excellent idea. Coinciding the time difference the first session will be the most difficult that I can see, 9pm here in east Aus is about 4am the same day in Oregan US.

Thank you Dan, that is a great offer.

The time difference would be a problem with voting or conducting serious chapter business; every member would need to be treated 'fair'. IMHO

One way around that time problem might be for us to 'talk' about something that needs a vote on Dan's private site over several days and assign that issue a number or special name and then use a regular string here on general discussion to hold a vote (yes or no) on that numbered/named item by only chapter members. If a non-member votes it would just not be counted; each of us have a unique 'handle' which no one else can use here.

Just brain-storming for a way for us to conduct chapter business in private and how to be fair to all.

Louis,
This chat room is not the same as it is here. This is a real time chat room. What is dicussed is can't be saved and picked up later like it is here.

we could do discussion and designate someone to tabulate the votes, maybe two guys, then send our votes to both and when they independantly tabulate the voteing out come and their scores agree that could be the way the voting went.

The time difference is not a major problem.

K1dan
With some real time chat rooms each message session came be saved and reviewed but has to be selected manually, I have not tried myself though.

As some of you know, I've received a few requests for Dan's IM room.
At this point I think it would be a good idea if Dan makes the call as to who he wants too send HIS address to.
I will send Dan the list of the signed up "charter members" to refer to.
This may be a way of trying it out to see just how it works out.
I would think that Dan is in charge of his site and should be able to make a call when, and if he feels it's getting out of hand.

If I could find your e-mail address from the screen name on the list I got from RGWiz. You should have a message with a link to the chat room from me. If you didn't get it or have a hard time opening it please email me of send a PM asking for help. I will try to have the room open when I am online.

Thanks for the address Dan, when to the site and everything booted up fine...just no one there but me.

Maybe we need to set up some set times that some of us can agree on to visit the site?

I managed to be at the computer when Dan logged in friday night my time and spent best part of an hour testing (typing). I did get a couple of errors about script but I think they were generated from my computer and not the system.
