I should have used "Semper Fidelis" ("Semper Fi") as the example of a traditional motto instead of "See the USA in your Chevrolet".

I don't really think "Semper Fidelis" would apply to the Chat Chapter. Besides it is already taken! nor would "Be Prepared" How about What we strive to do here, well besides cutting each other down, which is the only time I seem to see the byline of Rochelle Goodhead. I am still waiting for R.G. to do something productive on the site. How about it Rochelle? Is there anything productive in your tool box?

Hey Mack,
I'm not sure what this is all about. But it looks like you slipped in a good one. Ida thought you'd have gotten hammered for asking a female if there was anything productive in her tool box.
Maybe not. Or maybe you just managed to slip that one past everybody!
Bill.

He! He! some folks just don't get it!
and being PC, Woweee!
Would that be Possible Crazy?
that I am, ever since I started growing gray whiskers. I also have C.R.S.!
I also get a PSA regularly, anyone with gray whiskers should get a PSA every year.
I don't think I understand whether Richell Good head is a female working as a male poseing as a female or what. Maybe she/he will clue us in when they get their VCCA membership number..... some folks will go where they aren't supposed to go, without an invitation. Maybee with al that talendt she/he could do me some speling tooterin.
I hope everyone isn't taking me seriously because as Doctor Z said.....it's a joke!!!

One of the BEST things Mr. Mack has ever said out of his 7200 posts. I also get a PSA regularly, anyone with gray whiskers should get a PSA every year. It seems possible some may NOT be aware of the meaning of the initials PSA . It's the abbreviation for: prostate-specific antigen. It's a test to help access your likelihood of having prostate cancer. Part of normal "blood work" at the clinic or Dr's office. Over 50 yr old males DEFINITELY should have this test once a year. Some may be sad to hear it basically saved my life 6 years ago. Mack is definitely correct on this one. Bill.

as a physcian,i agree with the posts recommending an annual PSA for those of us over 50 or youger if a + family history of prostate ca. one caution though regarding the drawing of the blood sample for the PSA-- make certain you've had no ejaculation 3 days prior to withdraw of blood sample.my neighbor wasn't made aware of this fact by his family doc and he was subjected to a prostate biopsy because on an elevated PSA the sample of which was obtained the day after he and his wife got it on. mike

Thanks Mike, I appreciate that, especially since my doctor denies the fact that the "finger test" has anything to do with an elevated PSA reading. :( :( :(

I feel it's very good to have a group of guys who are often thought to be sort of "macho" discussing this important subject. I'm not exactly a crusader for the PSA test. But I do believe it was real important in getting me sent to a urologist for a biopsy which proved positive for prostate cancer. It's also great to have Dr. Mike support having the PSA test and he and others offering further comment. I guess it's sometimes "cool" to be macho; but certainly NOT about this subject. :cool2: Bill.

I've never been instructed to 'abstain' prior to the PSA test, and I get regualr screening at Kaiser (never elevated). Most of the web sites I just looked at didn't mention it under "preparation" but one site did:
The PSA level may be higher than normal if:
* You have benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH). BPH is a common condition of older men that occurs when the prostate grows larger with aging. BPH is not a form of cancer. * You have a condition that inflames or irritates the prostate gland. Examples of such conditions are infection of the prostate gland (prostatitis), severe infection elsewhere in the body, injury, biopsy, vigorous massage, heart attack or recent heart bypass surgery, Foley catheter placement, or endoscopy of the bladder or kidney through the urethra. * You ejaculate within 24 hours before the test. * You have prostate cancer.

eldredjames, I have had a PSA test several times before I had surgery and afterwards, every three months for 4 years nothing has ever been said about abstainion, or otherwise. and yes Doctors are learning more about Prostate Specif Antigen test almost daily, When the doc says it is too high the best thing done is usually having bioposys taken of the gland. OUCH!!! (I have had 3 sets of 20 samples each) and as you say infections and other problems can drive the PSA up. I ain't so good at spellin, but usually can get the meaning across.

Guys, While this is a very worthwhile discussion, it has drifted from the original subject. Lets try to get back on track?

Sure, Dan.
We've been drifting about slogan's, logo's and cards.
My vote is to go forward without these accouterments. But I'll go along with anything as long as it gets decided soon.
Any way we could move the Chapter to its own forum so we could have threads on different topics?

Ray and kepi are still working on the paper work so we are in a 'down time' mode right now.
I assume some others are still teaking the logo design for us to consider.
It does look like the list of suggestions for a chapter motto is completed; maybe we could break the list down into sets of 5 and use the poll feature to vote on each set and then have a final vote on the ones that won these primary polls.
??? If someone has another idea on how we can vote on these please let us know.
I have never set up a poll string so someone who has done that will need to step up if we decide to do it this way. Could be a job for our Veep who know a whole lot more than me about computers...

I don't know about polls and tweeking logos and such.
What I really tend to be interested in is....when and where our next meeting (picnic) is going to be, and who is going to bring the barbeque and the 'tator salad? (I think that El Presidente should brang an ice cold keg of Colorado Koolaide!) Bow! Wow!
P.S I'll brang the mustard and ketchup, a tablecloth, some red Solo cups and the ants! (these Texas fire ants should liven up the affair somewhat).

Hey guys! I got rid of the in-laws Monday. With that I got my computer back. Yeah! I think the dicussion about psa is a good one. My Cardiologist scheduled my semi-annual stress, and blood work later this month. He included the psa this time. Thanks for the tips, they will come in handy before I go. I'm still waiting for a reply from membership and kepi is working on the by-laws. Right now, I'm not working on anything to do with the Chat Chapter. We can't move to another forum for now. It wouldn't be fare to the other Regions. A picnic sure is a good idea to help kill some time. How 'bout we all meet at the President's dog house since it's nice and cool up there this time of the year!
