Fellow old Chevy nuts,

It's 4 in the morning and I'm wandering around the World Wide Web. This website is one of my priority stops. Besides eBay and certain blogs.
I also stop at websites "from the dark side" as I like to put it. In other words Model-A F**d ones.
Beside my '29 Chevy Coach I also have a '29 Model-A. What I'm getting at is on one of the "dark side" sites (Ahooga) they have a chat room. Where like mineded people can instantly message each other over their favorite subject. At any time of the day or night. It's pretty neat, I've chatted with people all over the world. Is something like that possbile here? Would anybody be interested in it? The VCCA covers a lot more years then 1928 to 1931. So that could present a problem, maybe/maybe not. What are your thoughts on this?

Howdy Capt Harley. Yes, the IM (instant message) feature is something that I've experimented with previously. In fact, I've had a couple of VCCAers test it with me.

About a year ago, I suspended my evaluations of IM when I was asked to research and suggest a solution for a central membership database. I spent from May 2005 until March 2006 on it. The vendor that my committee recomended was not approved at the annual Board of Directors meeting. Since then we've been awaiting further direction on how to proceed. -- A membership Directory is very key to providing new services since most of them need to have immediate access to the most current list of members in the club.

Lately, I've been working on a "major" upgrade of the chat site (at VCCACHAT.org). I'll be announcing the results of that effort later this year. After reading your posting, I will see if I can add the IM feature into the evaluation.

I agree that it's incredibly cool to be able to "chat" in real time with someone halfway around the world.... but then again, most Ham Radio Operators already know that!!

Bill,

Sounds interesting, I'll look forward to when you post the upgrade results. "IM" is not every ones cup-of-tea but it is fun to do.

Thanks for all the work you do on this site, Bill.
If it wasn't for you I know that it would not be as good as it is.
