auto Everyone's favorite rod builder, Boyd Coddington, is back on the Discovery Channel, and this time he has his son working in the shop. As usual, there are three things going on at once with no time left to do any of them. These are, restoral of a '54 Corvette that starts from a rough body; a '55 Chevy; and something about an elusive Honda project the son is doing. The son had a run-in with the forman and he left in a huff. Will he be the next to leave the show? They complained all during the program that they are already short handed. Woe is me!! What ever will they do without "Potty Mouth running around if he does leave?

If they need another potty mouth they can always contract one of the Osborns. Sometimes it sound like a misdialed fax machine. (girlfriend daughter watches that stuff)....joe

 JYD, I don't know if I can be much help to you since I live in upstate NY. We got the program, still listed as "American Hot Rod", on Monday night at 9:00. I am on cable so don't know satellite channel numbers. It was starting a new series. Here it was on cable channel 26 which is The Discovery Channel. Suggest you try to find a local TV guide or contact your satellite company to see if AHR is carried by them. Stuart

Thanks anyone or everyone for "confirming" that info is correct.....

All I know is, no one has never seen Boyd and his group & the Osborns at the same time or in the same place. Hmmm!!

Could it be they are the same people ??

IMHO the only real craftsman on the show has now died...Roy Schmidt, he knew how to do the job the right way, he will be missed.

Yep......and Roy should have quit and gone over to Chip Foose (like Charlie the painter dude and Mike the machinist dude) were his work would have been totally appreciated, and where he would have been working with REAL professionals!

Well, I know I'll be on the Discovery Channel tonight @ 9pm. As soon as this basketball game is over. I'm more than willing to admit Boyd's show is pretty goofy; but I do find it entertaining.

Just checked......and "American Hot Rod" will be on my Discovery channel tonight at 10:00 PM. Looks like you get an hour jump on me 42bill.

And......the greatest street rod designer of them all, Chip Foose, will be on tomorrow night (Tuesday) on "Overhaulin'". The dudes on that show are all professionals and they do cars the way they should be done!

On last night's show, (which began a new episode), Boyd and his crew started working on an absolutely beautifully restored 1956 Chevrolet Bel Air convertible. The car was red and white, along with a matching interior. Boyd and his sidekick Duane "The Idiot" were remarking on the show about how nice this car was. At any rate, they are going to do their normal "routine" to completely destroy it, and Boyd immediately put two of his new employees, both totally inexperienced, on the job to take the car apart.

How about the newbie that said he could have that good looking 56 convertible dis-assembled by 4pm that day!?! Amazing!! Then they had him climb 'the pole' to switch on the power!?! No reason to take that show seriously. I think it's "supposed" to be "funny."

I don't have Discovery.
But isn't the fascination with Boyd Coddington a bit like a moth to the candle?

Yep, that's the dude that owns the '56 convertible and he is paying big bucks to have Boyd and the boys do their "thing" to it.

The show is funny? Hum....I never noticed that. I thought the series was more to show the car community that Boyd and his crew are actually more dysfunctional than professional.

Well, that sounds pretty "funny" to me.

Maybe "weird" or "odd" or "goofy" are better words. But it all sort of boils down to "funny" to me.

It would be less painful if he only cut up cars from the junkyard....it was painful to see that '56 go to Boyd to "do his thing" to it.

Wonder what they did with the parts from the '56? If I lived close enough to his shop I think I would offer to haul off all of the unwanted parts for Boyd; on the other hand he might be willing to pay to have someone take them.

I wonder how long Al will last this time? He seems to be fairly squared away.

In a past episode last year when Boyd and his boys cut up that all original and mint Chevrolet Biscayne that they found in a garage (Boyd Baby kept calling the car an Impala), all of the nice original interior parts and other pieces were thrown into the dumpster!

The 56 Chevy convertible project was completed on tonight's episode. It turned out pretty nice. A bit low in the front for my taste. I liked the idea of the movable dash. When it was "closed" it was smooth. When it was "open" the A/C vents, various controls and so on were visible and operable. Pretty neat.

They played another joke on the newbie who got fired in a previous episode and then talked his way back in as an intern. They told him to shake a rattle (paint) can until the "ball bearing" quit rattling. Duane finally let him off the hook by telling him it might be a can with a marble in it, instead of a ball bearing. And, the ones with a marble in them never get quiet. HA!! I got a kick out of that.

Bill.
