Man , I hate to be a whinnnnner but something really needs to be done over at the National Web site.
Get the thang updated!...PLEASE...
The National Board of Directors page still has James Burnes listed as a director.
Maybe the information would be news to someone in Tibet, or Australia as slow as the G&D mailing is.....
What the heck is going on over there anyway?????
Try to change your Director info. or meeting time and get "This page is not available" No one seems to be able to post Events on the Events page..... the notices for 2005 events is still there..... the National BOD meeting for next month still does not have a place or date posted.
This is not good...
This is not a very effective tool for recruiting new members either. (IMHO)

I would think James Burnes will be a board member until the meeting in March. Then the new "replacements" will be announced. Perhaps if you Email the webmaster...at webmaster@vcca.org the message will get acknowledged. That person probably never looks at our postings.

Maybe this shows what I am talking about..... this is at the bottom of the region services page: [This page was last updated on 04/28/2005] and ..... This is the message you get when you hit the SUBMIT button, after entering all the changes: The page cannot be found The page you are looking for might have been removed, had its name changed, or is temporarily unavailable. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Please try the following: If you typed the page address in the Address bar, make sure that it is spelled correctly. Open the vcca.org home page, and then look for links to the information you want. Click the Back button to try another link. HTTP 404 - File not found Internet Information Services -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Technical Information (for support personnel) More information: Microsoft Support Is this what we should expect to see?????????? Been there done that, been there done that. I don't want a message acknowledged...I want the big mess fixed! The webmasterperson (whoever they may be at the time), probably nevers looks at VCCA.org either. But why should it come down to a member to have to ask , and ask, then getting no answer have to post a gripe on Chatter to get any kind of a response? it seems to me that www.VCCA.org should be One of our most important public relation venue. It isn't being used to anywhere it's potential. OK so you are going to tell me everyone is not computer literate? So what? Do we all ride buggys and horses and use smoke signals to send messages? Welcome to the 21st century!

Hey Mack,
Sounds like you're getting ready to "volunteer" to do the job. They always tell me that's the best way to get things "fixed."
Keep us posted on how you like the new job!!!
Bill.

I ignored this thread for an hour, but then thought of a better way to respond. The starter topic for this thread opens up some good discussion points. First of all -- How much effort should the club put towards keeping the web site up to date? Secondly -- How much effort should we expect VOLUNTEERS to contribute to the club? Third -- How much additional money would you pay on top of your annual dues in order to make any kind of change to the current "order"? Fourth -- Almost forgot to ask (based upon a comment posted above), how come more of YOU don't volunteer to give back to the club? These are all questions that have been asked before... The one that has the greatest potential to be a REAL QUESTION soon is the third one. You might want to think seriously about your answer to that one.

Speaking as the narrow minded whatever I am, I wouldn't pay one more cent for dues to "support" the web site. I don't care about the web site. I'm "IN." Have been for nearly 30 years. The web site doesn't mean "jack" to me.
I figure if somebody doesn't like something, it's their responsibility to "volunteer" to fix it. Pretty much what I suggested to Mack.
Besides, who knows what's up with the volunteer that he/she hasn't updated the site. Maybe something personal, health, whatever.

BBB, That is a good question (#3) It requires some careful consideration. Have we saturated the workers? Should we ask the core of workers to take on even more work? It does not look like we have much of a chance to convert many older non-workers. We do recruit new members we consider good potential workers, that is working to a certain extent. Do we need to outsource more of our chores? Shows and Swap Meets, Chores like publishing the magazines, maintaining the website? manageing the operations and events of the club. If we do that calls for more positive cash flow. You figure it up, Thirty or Thirty five dollars a year, does not provide for very much outsourceing of management or outside maintenance expense . another example of the all volunteer workers is what is happening to the Volunteer Fire Departments in the rural areas. The population shifts are depeleting the rural areas of people that can volunteer at a time when the need is not getting any less.
and for question (#4) Rather than giving back to the club labor, time and energy, would some rather give cash, pledges, and items to be sold for the benefit of the treasury to pay for some outsourceing of services? We do not seem to have a way to do much of this material giving back, I am sure some would rather do that for reasons of wealth, physical weakness, infirmities, lack of available time, etc.
Bill, Being "IN" and not supporting the website is ok for those that are "IN" But it should also be a source of information and a place to spread the word of events that being planned. It should also be a good tool for those that are involved in sustaining the clubs and regions. I think that if we are going to continue to have a 100% volunteer staff, we need to add another layer of volunteers, to be receiving training and practice in relieveing and backing up the person that has the full responsiability for the chore. The website for example, have an assistant or two that can do some monitoring and updateing the site on a part time schedule.
Also, about the upcoming National Board meeting, according to the published minutes.. It is at most a two day affair, 90% is recalling what has happened, history, most of the rest of the time is trying to get 18 members to agree to some micro management of policy issues that should have been done by the committees responsible, if they had the proper authority. (IMHO)

"I think that if we are going to continue to have a 100% volunteer staff......." Hey Macky Wacky: I'm not totally sure, but I believe that some of the VCCA "staff" does receive a monthly compensation. Maybe someone can elaborate on this? Also, who is the VCCA webmaster now? As I remember the VCCA was looking for someone to take that job a year or two ago.

Well JYD that is true, however I do think that the small amount they receive is not in true porportion to the job they do or a indication of their value to the club. What do you expect that a job that the Finks do would bring in if they were working that same job in an American Corporation ?
Also I left a wrong impression (after I read what I wrote) about the work the BOD does, I just don't think we should have really high expectations as to what is accomplished at their single Annual Meeting. The real work is done the other 51 weeks of the year. We just see a small sliver of their actual accomplishments published in the G & D

Good news, good news!
Well it is only the 19th of February and I did get an answer to my email message I sent to "webmaster VCCA.org" on Feb. 9th, a Toni Hart who told me that if I would send my changes directly to her/him it would be fixed!and I sent her/him the information I had been trying to correct on the region information page. I will be anxiously waiting to see if the changes are made. I also got my G&D on Thursday. I guess I am fixed up for a while!

You are lucky.Thats is the first time that I ever heard of some one getting a reply from a person connected with the G&D or the Web site. We had a cat at one time that was fixed up....wasn't even broke.

...isn't that strange, you have a cat "Fixed" that isn't broken, but once he is fixed, he isn't able to function quite the same. I am glad Chevrolets and cats are different.....

Bill are you 'afixin' to have a cat fixed? just stick him head first into an old cowboy boot and have your helper hold him in the boot while you fix him, we do that all the time in Texas.

Nope. No cats here anymore.
To tell ya the truth, I didn't (still don't) understand what either Gene or you said about "cats."
I was sorta hoping my post would get some more info that might help me understand......
[Unfortunately your 'edit' didn't help any.....]
Bill.
