Has anyone seen the F**D commercial on TV where Mr. **** is talking aobut the development of the Model T and there is a quick picture of a "Model T".? It does not look like a F**D of that era to me. It sure looks to have a Bow Tie on the Radiiator Shell. Wich I could see in it slow motion or still frame to be sure.

I told my wife the same thing.Dosen't look like a Lincoln either....looks as if it may be a Studebaker but it flashes by so fast its difficult to get a good look.Maybe the Model T was too small to be seen.

The "current" F*rd commercial that I get a kick out of is the one about the new Explorer.
The guy says, "We designed the 2006 Explorer for the wide open spaces."
Yeah right. They sell 95% of 'em to folks who live in (large) metro areas. And then the 30 something twits that drive 'em back and forth to work wonder why they go broke buying gas for them. And I wonder why I can never find a parking spot because most of the idiots who drive "cars" like that can't park 'em in just ONE parking spot.
Amazing.
The 'wide open spaces.' What a joke!!!
Bill.

I drove a Hertz rental 4x4 Explorer(the only thing available) to Canada and back and it was a gas guzzleing piece of **** 12 MPG... The Blazer I usually rented got 26 MPG on the same route, I called it a F0RD EXCREMENT. The steering and handleing was a joke. Our 2005 Tahoe gets that pulling the Pace American enclosed trailer with the 28 riding inside.

It seems as though ALL the ads these days for any manuf. SUV's try to play up the "I'm one bad, adventure filled dude." Whats that one foreign SUV ad that shows the guy leaving his house and parachuting off a cliff then climbing into his SUV to go to work? Or that Nissan ad for the Xtrra(sp?) that shows a bunch of kayaking, mountain biking, cliff hangin', outdoors lovin' 30 something's? They all try to play on that "I'm a bored sububanite but maybe if I drive this, everyone will think I'm really a thrill loving, adventure freak."

The emotional play towards car purchases has been going on since Jordan autos created the "Man From Laramie" ad in the 1920's.
It's a pleasure to see Chevrolet now promoting the fuel mileage for their cars. Driving a vehicle that gets 30 mpg or better is as much of a patriotic act as any magnetic yellow bows you can slap on your trunk lid.

Bob Another problem with this type of advertizing " I am a bad adventure filled dude" is that you frequently narrowly miss them as they come speeding down a logging road filled with adventure and maybes some beer, thinking that no one else in the world is on that same road. On my back road trips I long for the days when all you saw were Jeep CJ2a's that were hard pressed to do 30 miles an hour.

While we're on the subject of advertisements and gas mileage, have you seen the new Chevy billboards? There's a picture of a new '06 Impala that says "303 HP" and "28 MPG"? Those, my friends, are remarkable numbers!

They are "remarkable numbers" but I suspect they are mutually exclusive.

Coach In the new issue of Hotrod, they did a quickie test of the new Z06 Corvette. Basically they said it'll run rings around a Viper or GT40 and in tests in Germany, put to shame the best from Porsche and Ferrari. Quarter mile times in the mid-11's, 60-0 braking in under 100 ft., and a top speed of close to 200mph. All this for a starting list price of around $65,000 as compared to what some of the others cost. Plus it's docile enough to drive daily. And they say GM can't build a car? Bob

I suppose it's possible the '06 Impala could deliver 28 miles per gallon at 70 mph. I'd guess you'd have to be real steady on the throttle.
My 96 Impala SS does 25 mpg at 70 mph on the Interstate. But I have to be real steady; best with the cruise 'on' for me.
I still prefer the size (and comfort) of mine.
Bill.

And the Impala is still more safe than any SUV, too. As you might have seen in this week's news, a study by the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and State Farm Insurance Companies showed that rollover crashes occurred twice as frequently in SUVs as in passenger cars, and children were three times more likely to be injured in a rollover crash than in a non-rollover accident.
The SUV "safety" feature seems very much like an empty sales pitch than a true benefit.
