Gator. A friend of mine built one out of two by fours and four by fours and used two by eight planking for the top. The length Is sixteen feet long. He made each side In two eight foot sections and bolted them together. That way It Is easier to move. The weight Is quite heavy. His Is two feet high and the one problem you would have, Is making the ramp long enough to get onto It, Especially with a low car. With a short ramp you would bottom out. His works great, But what a job to move It unless you leave It In a permanent spot. :) chevy

Awe Shucks Gator, Just quit squeezeing the nickle so hard the buffalo looks like Bambi, and buy a lift, 2 grand plus shipping will get you one you can use outside or inside, there are many that are along the same pattern in the magazines.

I would not use wooden frame as it tends to rot. My uncle tried that and came off second best, ramps collapsed while he was underneath.
Use steel with a lip to ensure the wheel does not slip off the side. You could make them a balance type that pivot when the vehicle goes over the centre and a prop that holds it there. Some have wheels that allow moving the ramps easier, but I would only use them on level concrete not dirt.
A lot of dealers use them here to display particular vehicles.

...Or buy a couple of those 6000# high lift air powered floor jacks and some big jack stands put one in front one in back and jack'er up put the jack stands under the 4 corners and have at it!!!
You won't have those heavy duty ramps in the way.

I was going through a 1950's popular mechanics mag last night and came across a photo showing a homemade car lift. the lift was made of steel and was made like a teter-toter, the front had legs going down to stop the "ramp" at a level position. the teter part would be slightly off center to the ramps. you would just slowly drive up the ramps, the weight of the car once past center would force the front of the lift down raising the rear. the legs then would stop the toter part from continuing down.
get the picture
just one more idea to think of

Yeah I have seen one of those tetter-totter ramps, they work like a tilt trailer.

I drive my car across the patio to a drainage ditch in my back yard. I put down two oak planks and carefully drive halfway across exposing the bottom of the car.
This way I can get under the car safely and change the oil or pull the transmission or take a nap.
My wife will occasionally say JOHN are you ok.

But I hate it when it rains.
