Today I was driving down the road with a bunch of my friends in my '92 GMC 1 ton and as I was shifting from 1st to 2nd my gas pedal got stuck and it was to the floor!!! The truck started overrevving but had a rev limiter or something so it didn't go over 5 grand thank god! I had to shut the truck off and kick the pedal to get it back up! Thank the lord it was on a back road!

A friend had similar happen and turning the key off didnt help the first time either, it did act as rev limiter though.

I dont know what caused it. Perhaps there was a sticky spot in the linkage somewhere.

Did you find the cause of the sticking pedal? If it happened once, it will happen again.

I'd call the dealer and find if there is a service bulletin on it. If yours stuck others have likely done it too. Also can check to see if the Feds have anything on it. Don't know the site but recalls and vehicle problems are posted several places on the WWW.

You will find that the gas pedal linkage is cable and it is "frayed" at the end. Just replace with new cable..

Same thing happened to me in a Honda back in the '90s....it took off like a shot...scared me to death.

For a lot of cars turning the key off will lock the steering wheel so make sure you turn the key back enough to unlock the wheel; which is what I had to do.

Never could find out why it happened....traded the car (with a warning) to a dealer for a '89 Camaro.

If that Honda scared you, you should try it in a "t" bucket with a blown 454, 4 spd, 5.14 gears.......We never got that seat cover back to the relaxed position....joe

man that is scary. ive had that happen once and it was enough. we were test driving a 70 gto judge and the gas pedal stuck and my hubby had to pull into a parking lot and put it in neutral and kick it down. luckily it was ok but needless to say we didnt buy the car.
