Everything is cool Bill. Thanks for noticing my time away.
As you might know I work for the school system here in town. We just opened a $30 million state of the art middle school and I got the job of bringing it home on time for the kids to enter on 9/6/05. PHEW! Just made it! It looks great and the District is happy.
But I'm shot! Lot's of weekend hours and last minute changes kept me there 'till all hours. Get home, pass out, and then get out early in the AM.
But, that's work and now we are all getting back into a normal schedule. Only thing is I miss the challenge and I'm sort of glad that I'll be chasing down every punch list item and scheduling contractors to perform some of the items not completed. The scope is big enough to last another 8-10 months.
It's still great to have the time to jump back in here...thanks for asking!

Re the gas gauge: I filled up my 'driver' 1984 Caprice Coupe yesterday. $63 bux. 23 gallons @ $2.73.9. The guy commented, geez - that's like filling up an SUV!!

RE RG: Glad to hear all is well. Altho you've obviously been putting in the hours. And it sounds like there's more to go. 8-10 months??? Yikes!!!

This N.O. / Katrina sitch is far from over. Big commerce center. Big economic impact to come.

Hang on to your hats, errrr wallets, guys!!!

Petrol here is $1.39 a litre which converts to $4.17 a gallon at your place so stop complaining.
Why do you think I use bbq gas at $0.52 a liter or $1.56 at your place.

Tony,

Good to hear from ya......

In a way it doesn't make much difference if somebody pays a dollar more a gallon or 50 cents less a gallon. WE'RE ALL PAYING TOO MUCH.

I think we should all be complaining about it. I understand it doesn't do any good to 'complain' here in CC. I just don't know "where" to complain about it. The gov't??? The petro companies???

I hate to think there's nothing we can do about it!!!

It even hurts me when I fire up the lawn tractor. It usually uses about 3 gals per mow which means about $9 a mow! That cuts to the quick....quickly!

If there is a place to complain that would count, sign me up. Man, this is just ridiculous. mad

Just got back from taking daughters stuff to college ( Unity, Maine; we were paying on average of 3.39.9 per gallon with the high of 3.69.9 per gal. Paid more for fuel than we did for motels.

I know that I will be linched toot-sweet for the comments. Current gasoline prices are not that far out of line historically. And the profits of the largest oil companies are still within the normal percentage of total sales. I suggest checking-out the facts before reaching conclusions. And for sure don't believe much that you see and hear on the nightly news. It is highly filtered and slanted. If you want an example how many stories do you hear about the good things that people do compared to the bad? If that were a true depiction of our society then we would be in complete chaos. As I often councel, think about things and try to see both sides before making a statement or reaching a conclusion.

No I am not an employee or former employee of an oil company. I do own oil company stock in my IRA but I don't direct the purchase and sale of stocks.

And I don't like paying the current prices for fuel but, still appreciate that I have the freedom to choose whether I will pay or not, where I live, what I can say or write, that we have the best medical care in the world. I am not ready to move to Middle East just yet. {They have the lowest fuel prices.}

Tinnocker, I was trying to say Gasoline and what Chipper was saying is not politics,It should be a concern with us that we have some correct knowledge of what is a major factor in what happens to the economy of the nation. It is business, kinda like labor unions is not supposed to be politics but a way for workers to negociate with business management.
Democrats and Republican issues are politics. Just my humble opinion..... I agree this is not a place to express and promote any political views or agendas. The politicos and the mainstream media pretty well have that subject covered.

sidenote:
While we were in Jenks Ok, this weekend we toured the Tulsa Hurricane Motor Works where they are doing research into hybrid cars, they have four generations of Gasoline-electric test vehicles and they also have a new fuel cell that converts Hydrogen gas to electricity, they are preparing to mount it in a new GM donated car.
This operation is located in what is also the Petroleum Technology Research area at Tulsa U.

:) As a note of interest, the October issue of the American Legion Magazine has a good article on US oil production. Among other things, it shows the increase in oil drilling rigs by state for 2005 as compared to 2004. Texas increased by 12; Louisiana by 6; Oklahoma by 3; Colorado by 3; and California by 1; These increases resulted in a total of 1,352 drilling rigs active as of June 2005. However, the article also states the Alaskan North Slope oil field is drying up. Like I said, this is offered only as a note of interest. It is obvious to me though that no matter how much we want to protest and complain about gasoline prices, if we all drove just a little less each day maybe what we have will last a little longer. I am retired and am out and about when necessary to run errands and you can't convince me there is a gasoline shortage when there are as many cars on the road as there are and most of them flying low!

Good idea Beamer, also driving 60 mph rather than 70 or 75 will also help and when you are approaching a stop or stop sign letting off 300 yards before will save gas and your brake pads as well, all pennies in the piggy bank. That will work as well or better than trying to boycott an item that is "in short supply" like gasoline. why would the oil marketeers care as to who buys the gasoline, it will be bought by someone.
I saw an article about U.S. refinerys, none have been built in many years, (lack of enviromental permits and low profitability) was sited as the primary causes , we use 18,000,000 gallons a day during peak travel days, and we have refining capacity of 17,000,000 gallons per day. The piece stated that there is plenty of crude oil, but not enough refining capacity here in the USA.
whatever, who can you believe? everyone has a different axe to grind.

THE THEORY:

Basics:

1. Purpose of business is to make money...period

2. Purpose of government is to protect & service its people...period.

Bottom line:

No problems if both 1 & 2 just do their job.

Sometimes theory and reality aren't the same...

I hope that readers do not interpret the following comments as politically motivated. They are not meant to condemn anyone but, to hope that people will wake up and see the direction that we are going.

Could it be true that the true enemies of the USA are already in our midst? Without significant change in direction every citizen in the USA will lose standard of living in comparison to the rest of the world. It is already happening and at a rapid rate too.

With 29 years without building a new refinery because it was not profitable when those facilities have a practical service life of less than 20 years should be cause for concern for all of us. If you want a model of the destruction of the American society read about the demise of the Roman Empire. There are more parallels than you would imagine.

If we just stick our collective heads in the sand we will find out how long it takes to loose them.
