I remember when the boss called us together an instructed us not to turn the pumps on for fifty cents worth of gas any more. It was bot worth the electricity unless the customer bought at least $1.00 worth. Does anyonw else remember those days? bigl bigl bigl

I can remember giving the gas station all my money just like I do today, except all of my money then was about 15 cents.

I remember going into Electra, Texas a 12 mile trip to drive the drag, our small town didn't have a drag, and if we (four of us high schoolers) had 50 cents each we could pitch in and get a dollars worth of 23 cent/gallon gas and each eat a 15 cent hamburger and a 5 cent coke at Eddie's after making the drag and a couple of drag races, then drive home on fumes, and then if we were lucky "run a couple of drips" and get maybe 10 gallons of drip (casing head gas) we did the "drip running" late at night to keep from getting caught.

Remember "gas wars"; before the big companies took over and drove the small guys out?

Best I ever paid was 13.9 during a gas war when I was in high school. Cruised all weekend to every drive-in 'burp & slurp' going slowly around and around in a '60 Chevy ragtop with a 348 and cut outs and up and down the main 'drags' in town. Too cool...

Gas Wars used to be "see who can go the lowest."

Now it seems like the 'gas wars' are just the opposite - "see who can charge the most!!"

Amazing!!!!!

Bill.
