Jar41, hurry up and get that pump into service, I guess you would charge it on my Phillips 66 Courtesy card, OK? I will need to fill up a couple of vehicles next month when we go to Mo. I will bring my own oil and filter, you won't mind changeing it free if I buy a couple of tanks of gas will you, and get the air checked in the tires (don't forget the spares)!!!!

Mack I don't think I will have the pump ready for the return trip from Branson. I have invited Chevgene to stop by Sullivan on his way back home. He has been a great help to me (along with others) on my restoration. If any of the other members show up we will have a little "meet" of our own. The pump is going to be neat but I am afraid the price won't hold up. With the price of fuel today it would be great to save a little. Oh Well wishful thinking. chevy Jim

JAR41, I was dreaming out loud from about 55 years ago, I think those were the good old days, working on a drilling rig for $2.20/hour and I worked three months and saved enogh money to attend college for 2 semesters, I did have to work some for my room and board at the dorm ($83 a month).

This Southern Spring Tour is a tour worth attending just for the friends you get to see again for a couple of days.

I do apologize for getting off topic guys!

MrMack, You could get the expensive oil for your cars in '49. Because you were in "high cotton" getting $2.20 an hour in 1949.

Here is the wage for some others in '49:

"...efforts proved successful and President Truman signed the 75-cent minimum wage law in 1949"

WOW, 2.20 an hour. I went to work for Boeing In 1957 and the pay was 1.61 an hour and I thought that was great. My friend also started at Boeing the same time as me and he was a draftsman making 1.92 an hour. I thought at the time that he was going to really get rich quick, Making such a big hourly wage. At the time I was driving a 52 **** car and was buying two gallon cans of recycled oil, As my car went thru about two gallons a week. I never had to have a oil change at the service station. It was changed automatically while driving. As I look back, Those were the good old days, Five hamburgers for a dollar, A bag of french frys eleven cents, at McDonalds. yipp yipp auto auto auto auto auto

Not much better in '67, when the Navy eagle flew, the check was $95.00 a month, but when you are on board ship at sea there isn't anything for anyone to buy anyway (not like today), except a pack of smokes for 10 cents and nickel cans of coke. Won't tell you how we cooled the cokes down, but it was very bad for the ozone layer (who knew then?).

Left a civilian job paying $1.25 hr. (& I had worked up to middle management).

Sounds, about right, Swabbies getting 3 squares and a clean flop. Doing all that damage cooling COKES with a highly environment unfriendly Aerosol! (but? wasteing that cooling ellexer on COKE!)

The Jarheads were drinking Lucky Lager hot right off the Semi Trucks sand and all.
The way I remember it, it was just a little cooler coming out than when it went in.

Always bothered the Jarheads that their checks were signed by the Secretary of the Navy.

Gotta give them their due tho, there were USMC frogmen on board our minesweeper...they went there and did what they had to do without any commplaints...very brave men...made you proud of America.

Just don't tell them I said that.

Hum.....where's Chipper Dipper? He always makes a big "splash" when he gets back from trips by locking threads left and right. But then, after a few days he goes to sleep again! Cool, when that happens the dudes can play. I love it! ha ha! dance drink  laugh

Hey Mackie Wackie, I would think that with all the oil your cars use, That you would be drilling for some of that Texas Oil you probably have down under your garage, Or maybe that oil Is what has leaked out of your cars?

Chip thanks for posting a topic related response. I think this one has been in the oven long enough and needs to come out.

Chip thanks for posting a topic related reply, I think if we stayed a little closer to the topic the post would not get so long winded. This one has probally surpassed it's useful life. Feel free to open a new topic if more info is needed on this subject.
