I am looking for new hub caps for my 31. Fillingstation has some made old stamped steel (Chromed) caps. I have two old ones which are cast aluminum and are real tuff. I also have some old stamped steel ones which are easy dented and thin.
QUESTION/s...
1)what were the originals?
2)Are the fillingstation high quality?
3)Where can you buy cast hub caps?
4) Recommendations?

The cast ones were reproductions made by Paul Hammond Co. in the 1960s. Originals were chrome plated skins over zinc plated steel backings. The reproductions that are available are the best bet today.

Most originals were made by the D. L. Auld Co., Columbus, Ohio. The name could still be visible on the back side. The solid aluminum caps are probably repros from the 1960s, the maker's name or initials (P.H.?) were on the back side but I can't remember the name. There were some replacements from suppliers like J.C. Whitney but the "bow tie" design was only a bar, not the real Chevrolet emblem. I have not seen the Fillingstation caps but would expect them to be high quality.

If you have old Chevrolets, other old Chevrolets will find out where you live.

The Filling Station has the correct hub caps! The original hub caps had a stamped steel backing with a brass, chrome plated skin crimped over the steel shell. The hub caps that the Filling Station sells are of a very high quality. yipp laugh laugh laugh laugh

As usual your responses are very helpful and interesting. Looks like the best course of action is to place a order with the fillingstation.

Looks like the oridinals were made right here in my back yard (Columbus).
I do have two of the caps with the straight loggo on them rather than the correct bowtie..........interesting!!

Thanks Shocks

I have a set of 4 hubcaps I purchased from the Filling Station. They are brand new still in the plastic. Never been on a car. I paid $230 + Shipping. I'll sell them to you for $200 and drive them to your house. That is if your still in Canal Winchester. I live in Pickerington OH.
