Hi. I'm trying to find the approximate value of a 1928 4-cylinder Chevy engine (mfg on July 27th, 1928). The engine belonged to my uncle, and my folks are now settling his estate partially with an auction, including this engine. We have no idea how to find an estimate for the engine, even a range of values to start with, and so far I haven't found a website or book that can help me. I'm not looking for an exact price, just a ballpark figure so the auctioneer can have some idea of where to start, etc. The engine runs OK we think and is in good shape, just not sure what market there is for this. Thanks.

Not a very strong market for the bare 1928 engine. The real value is on the hang-on items, carb, dist, gen, start, brackets, pipes, and WP.

Bare engine: $100.00

Loaded engine: $250.00

Thanks for the info. I haven't seen the engine myself, but it sounds like you're saying unless these other parts are already there, it's not worth all that much. I'll have to check on that.
