I'm getting my license in 7 days. You think I'm excited? I understand that the prices are partially increasing because of the hurricane, but seriously, we've had hurricanes before and how much gas or crude was being produced there anyway? We should organize some kind of huge boycott on gas. I know everyone is cutting down now and using less, but I'm sure that a lot more people could carpool or walk or whatever to not use as much gas. The oil companies have been playing with us for too long, now its time for a change! And by the way, I'm just a kid so if my facts and ideas are all wrong, just tell me, I won't feel bad!

I think you're right on, Bob, whether you're a 'kid' as you say, or not.

Interesting that the refineries in the NO area produce(d) only 10% of the nation's gas. Maybe even 10% of just the S.E. US gas.

So how the heck can that drive up the price of gas 1000's of miles away. Up here in Oregon we don't even use NO gas. It comes from Alaska. But 'they' say they're shipping some of 'our' gas to that area, so we now have a shortage.

Man, "playing with us" is an understatement.....

The 'problem' with a boycott is actually doing it. Hard to organize 100 million drivers without an organization.

But, like you say, if we all just did a little bit less driving it might make a big difference. Frankly, I suspect, if we cut back only 10% on gas for a just a month, it would make a big differnce to the gas cos.

Something else we're facing right now is the fact that 'they' always raise the price a bit (10 cents to 25 cents is my guess) for the Labor Day holiday and the Memorial Day holiday.

So there's two 'things' right now. NO and Labor Day. They're sure making a killing, aren't they??

Dang Crooks!!!

Incidentally, congrats on getting your license. I hope you have many years of safe driving and enjoyment behind the wheel. Try to always be safe when you're driving.

Bill.

Good idea, why don't all of you just quit buying gas for several months, there will be plenty for the rest of us that drive to work, to get grocerys, to go to the doctors and to school etc., etc. and then there will be a glut of gas on the market and the price will go down, or the greedy marketeers will send it to China, where they can get some of our dollars back!

Thanks Bill! Luckily I work only about 2 miles form my house! Theyre going to have to raise wages or something pretty soon, I mean, how's a guy supposed to survive with all this greedy nonsense goin on? I think that people are just too money hungry and don't care enough about other people. I might try inventing some kind of incredibly fuel efficient engine so that the oil companies will try to buy me out. Then I'll take all of that money and mass produce my fuel efficient engines! And whats with Venezuela? My social studies teacher said that they have one of the biggest oil industries in the world. He also said that their leader hates us and won't sell us any. Gas there now is only 12 cents a gallon! 12 CENTS per GALLON!!! Man, this is getting ridiculous!!!

Bob,

It seems like there's lots more about (behind) all "this" than most of us will ever know.

But, there's always the possibility that using 10% - 25% LESS gas by 'combining trips' - even 'limited' car pooling, like taking your neighbor to church or to the grocery store - WALKING on 'short errands' rather than driving - etc. - etc. MIGHT do something.

Or maybe as K-S suggested in another post: "pick" one co and "boycott" it.....

An idea circulating in the UK at present is not to buy from two leading companies, Esso + BP they would have to drop prices & the others would have to follow suit!
Well flawed but If Only !!
Who knows..... ?????

I DO know I'm going to 'watch' my driving a bit closer and see if I can't cut down on my fuel consumption a bit. Even if it's only 10% or so.

Certainly it couldn't hurt if we all tried at least that much of a 'boycott.'

Bill.
