Oh, the humanity!
1. Right lane exits from the left lane of the highway
2. 15 mph "stops" at red lights as they cut in front of you.
3. Modern car drivers who get too close to me in my '35; either tailgating or along side.
4. Drivers of cars behind me with automatic transmissions who don't allow for a lag in acceleration when manually shifting my car.
5. Cell phones, cell phones, cell phones.
6. Just about anything a driver from (fill in your favorite state here; mine is Massachusettts) does.
7. My own favorite thing to do is to drive the speed limit, just to **** off the guy behind me.

I have been checking out the aggressive drivers to see what they are and it turns out that most of the reckless aggressive drivers here are women not men.

Don't know about the other states but here 18 wheelers are not allowed to be in the fast lane on the interstate.

Also a new law is going into effect which is if you are only going the speed limit (70) on the interstate you are not allowed in the fast lane either.

Should make it easier for the State Patrol to identify those going over the limit! dance

In many states you are required to move to the right if anyone wants to pass you, regardless of your speed. That may be the intent of the law, because otherwise it would mean that the left lane on the interstate is never to be used. In many states the interstates are only two lanes each way and if the law was written as stated, no one could ever pass anyone else. The law could read that it is illegal to drive in the left lane, meaning except to pass.

Mixed feeling on the new law...you get a ticket for obeying the speed law....

They also raised the minimum speed for the interstate.

I see some diesel vehicles are burning old cooking oil now. I know a guy who gets all he needs free from the restaurants and then he has to filter it for use.

We make 'gas' out of corn now maybe rice could be next...LOL.

In northern Europe on the Motorways, the trucks
travel in the right lane at 55MPH; the buses travel 62MPH in the right lane. When the buses overtake the trucks they pass in the center lane
and then return to the right lane. It's illegal
for either to use the third lane unless lane
restrictions are there. The cars move at 80 plus
MPH. The slower ones move into the center lane to
let the faster ones go by. That's civililzed. On the way to Portland after the JYD, most of the
cars on the two lane I5 stayed in the fast lane and held up the faster cars. Lesson: Pull over for faster cars. Let them go by where you can see
them. It just makes sense.

It seems to me those folks who get out in the left lane and just "camp" there are responsible for many "problems" on the freeways, including (at least contributing to) some of the "road rage" we hear about these days..

It's too bad there isn't enough law enforcement to ticket those 'pigs' who 'hog' the left lane mile after mile.

I have seat belts in all my old cars. I hate it when people notice this and inform me at great length how they will cause me to be killed in an accident (how ?????) and how I am letting down the old car movement by installing them.

Hi Terry,

I'm with you! I install seat belts in all my old cars. I for one feel it should be a law.

I even hid a roll bar in my 31.

I site the recent Duesenberg wreck.

Think about it John, It could be safer to be thrown clear of a wood framed car body than being trapped inside and pierced by 1000 hardwood splinters!

A hidden roll bar will probably work on a closed car, but where are you going to hide a roll bar on a Duesenberg dual cowl phaeton? It has a convertible top.  wink laugh laugh

I looked at the pictures of the wreck site of the Duesenberg. I saw all of the seats strewn about the highway and I thought of the children.

My feelings are if you want to drive an old unsafe car you need to think of safety. There is no room for debate in my book.

If a rollbar is needed so be it.

You just need to do it in a way that does not take away from the look of the car if possible.

If you can't maybe the car should be in a museum.

My feelings are that on todays freeways an old slow moving vehicle has no place unless there is some sort of escort.

Thats why I felt the need to bring my 1931 up to modern standards of road worthiness as much as possible.

At least it gives you a chance to say, I did the best I could.

I don't know of any car collector who would put a roll bar in a two million dollar Duesenberg phaeton. And, as far as slow vehicles are concerned, that 1929 Duesenberg could probably out run a lot of the cars that are on the road today. Your '31 would be considered a slow car in comparison since the 1929 Duesenberg can drive at freeway speeds and far beyond. So then, based on what you said, your '31 Chevy has no place on the freeway unless there is some sort of escort.

The issue in this case isn't whether the car is fast or slow or if it has roll bars or seat belts.....the issue is idiot drivers who kill people and destroy property and then end up having more rights than the people they killed on the highway. :( :( :( :(

Oh boy, here we go.....

Seat belts in "old" cars......

Just remember the adage, "A man convinced against his will is of the same opinion still."

Good luck settling this one guys!!!!

Incidentally, I wouldn't put seat belts in my old car(s).

Period.

But I do 'understand' why some folks do.

Hey JYD,

The issue is about safety and improving your odds of survival without life threatening injury.

Idiot drivers - is an issue in itself.

curse curse How about waiting for a left turn at a controlled intersection where you have a red turn arrow while the two right lanes have a green light and some idiot back in the left turn lane can't see the red arrow but because the guys in the right lanes are going, starts blowing his horn thinking you are asleep! Ever want to wring someone's neck? Hand held cell phone use in a vehicle is illegal in NY but there are more drivers with and using them, than without. I also want to bump into people I let in line and then do not receive even the slightest acknowledgement that I did so. They act like you owed it to them. Lastly, I also get peeved at the people who pull out in front of you from a side street, parking lot, etc., and then slam on there brakes to make a turn, especially when there is no one coming behind you for a quarter mile and they could have just as well waited.

Safety in vehicles is an important issue no doubt and no argument...especially in modern cars. I know what you are saying, however, you don't install roll bars and seat belts in a two million dollar Duesenberg! I have no problem with installing seat belts in an old car....that is the owner's choice, but sometimes there is a limit as to what should be done to a valuable vintage car such as a Duesenberg. wink laugh laugh laugh
