How should the vehicle on the inside of the back cover be classified? As a Car or Truck?

It is called by both names in the ad.

Gator:

I think that's a good question. At least it is if you consider you and I don't know the answer. Unless, of course, you're simply asking a rhetorical question.

Notice that in the 'credit' for the photo it says, "Factory photo of Light Delivery Truck." That leads me to believe it's a 'truck.'

Further, I suppose another more technical way to decide if it's a 'truck' or a 'car' is to know what the chassis is. That's based on my presumption the chassis / frame for the 'truck' would be 'heavier' than for the 'car.'

Who knows.....

Bill.

gator,

I'd say truck, as it appears to be designed to carry goods, rather than passengers...

looks like a forerunner of the canopy express...

It's a truck. Commercial vehicles are sometimes called cars, especially if it is used buy a hotel or resort.

Maybe seats can be added to the bed.

Lot's of people around here call SUV's cars.

So a depot hack is a ? LOL

It just surprised me to see the word 'car' used in the original ad by Chevrolet to describe the vehicle which I had always called a truck.

The depot hack is is an early name for a station wagon and station wagons, when not on truck chassis such as Suburbans, are considered cars.

gator,

well, along those lines, a bus shore ain't a truck either, now is it?.. laugh

I think the ad was written at a time when trucks were all very large...and cars weren't...so they slipped up and wrote "car," because, in their mind, it was car-sized...

rgwiz,

I agree with you...I refer to suv's on truck chassis as trucks, but often when I do, I get a  wazzup from people that just see them as BIG cars...

Isn't it amazing what a ka-jillion dollars spent on advertising can do?!?!?!?

Calling an SUV, whether a Suburban, Tahoe or Blazer a 'car' is about as crazy as calling a ord/F a Chevy.

Right. Even though my answer was pritty lame. I think most folks hate the idea of riding in a truck. 'Specially when the girls are all dressed up.
But, they continue to buy SUV's. Maybe 'cause the guys want rear wheel drive and 8 cylinders!

RG,

I certainly didn't mean to indicate your 'answer was lame.' I was simply suggesting a whole bunch of advertising money seems to have 'convinced' the American public that SUV's are cars and not trucks.

I think your post just above this one is absolutely right on. It's one of those 'perception' kinda things.

Bill.

Since the insurance companies classify SUV's as trucks the premium is lower...so you guys with the SUV's better hope the insurance companies don't start calling them cars....LOL

No 42bill. I am the one that thinks it's lame. I just can't get to the bottom of this one. Yeah they are trucks, but people want to use them as cars...I guess????????????

In states that have weight fees as part of the yearly license fees, such as California, you wouldn't want a passenger vehicle to be classified as a truck. The stupid thing is that no matter how heavy a motorhome is, it is not considered a truck for licensing.

Can't resist asking;

If a person is living in their car it would then be a motorhome or a RV?
