I wonder if Mr. Bill accepted some banner space this site could afford to post pictures?
Kinda like Chevy Talk does.
I'm not sure that's how they can afford it but it's just a thought.

RG,

I've been watching to see if MR. Barker had anything to say about this. Nothing yet....

Accepting banner space might be a "costly" way to get pix. Lots of folks I talk to 'grumble' about ads....

Just a thought....

Bill.

Bill;
We have been through this many times and the answer sort of is...that it will get very costly to upgrade so that this site can post pictures.
If I understand it, we would need a much bigger storage capacity server to hold all the pics, that is even if the pics are small size (resolution) and each member uploads just one picture.
My thought would be to sell ad space so we could afford the larger server.
I'm not an wiz at this stuff, but I think we can sell space to at least the businesses that already advertise in the G&D. We give free plugs to a bunch of venders here now.
We all have said it before that a picture is worth a thousand words. I am just curious as to how many of you wouldn't mind a little advertising in exchange to be able to post pictures. (without it getting out of control)
I'm not looking for Mr. Billy Boy to jump all over this. He does a great job now. I think we have a Tech Department that may be able to take this to the next level.
This site is information oriented and I think it would be great if someone can post a picture with the reply.

With out taking too much time to consider advertising by "pop up", I don't need any more advertising, especially on this site.

Provisions are already in place to post pictures on this site, as witnessed by the pictures you see.

The procedure to post a picture has been covered in detail several times, but in a nutshell, this is how:

You must upload the picture to space provided by your server (or other source). Once this is done, it is a simple matter to follow the instructions on this forum to place a "LINK" to your picture.

As my connection is by cable, my server provides a large space for me to upload information. I would suggest each member contact their individual server and see if they don't have similar service available. The server is not going to spend time telling you about this service, but will answer when questioned.

If you have the space, follow the instructions provided by your server to accomplish the upload.

Hi RGwiz,

I read your entry before you deleted it. Your suggestion had some merit, however it required the viewer to log into another site and other maneuvers before seeing the picture.

It was a "LINK" to a site and not a picture.

I don't know if we're taking a "poll" or what.....

But if I was asked about 'adding' pop ups, I'd say "no thank you."

Thank you.

The last thing we want are any "pop ups"! I think they are disgusting invasions of privacy. Just like telephone solicitors spam spam spam

Yes the link I managed to get into my "never mind" post required the visiter to log in. This is the problem I am having with posting pictures on a "host" site. I have a cable connection too, but it dosen't offer a picture storage.
In regards to the advertising here, my thoughts are NOT the use of "pop-ups", I hate them too. I use a pop up stopper all the time. The ad media I was thinking about is "banners" or simple frames that you can click on to access. You can see them in action on the Chevy Talk site.
Look at how many guys post questions here. Wouldn't it be real simple to answer one another with a picture and reply. If it where as easy as Antique Mechanic suggests than everyone would have been using by now.
Respectfully, RayG

Hey RGwiz,

I have some extra storage space and would be more than happy to post a few pictures on Chev Chat for you. Just email them to me and indicate which forum you would like them in. I've done this for some of the other guys and it seems to work fine.

Well I for one will say again that you're one heckuva guy to do this. I sure as he!l appreciate the 'picture work' you've done for me.

It's first class and I'm real pleased the CC'ers can click and see my cars.

I agree with you that it is nice to see the other guy's cars. I wish there were more.....

Thanks again, BigBob!!!

Hey Bob...Are you the guy a bunch of us sent pictures to last winter? I sent a bunch of pics to you. I re-shot some of my car after I reduced the resolution. I get them off to you later this weekend.
Thanks for all you are doing!
I think we still need to look at the technology to just add a small resolution shot with a reply. There is no way you should sit at your machine on a real time basis just to post pics for everyone...

RGwiz,
I am not the one that you all sent pictures to. That member 32confederate is on assignment out of the US at the moment as I understand it.

What I am doing is just stiring up a little picture activity until The "Real Picture Program" starts. I am having a lot of fun doing it, and learning a lot about manipulation of pictures and Home page work. My business has had a home page for 10 years, with a lot of storage space just going to waste.

So if you want to see your car posted in a forum, email me the picture and tell me which forum you want it in.

BigBob did IT for me and I'm VERY appreciative. You can see his handiwork by 'clicking' on my "signature" at the end (bottom) of my posts.

Pretty neat, huh???

Thanks again, BB.

Most good ISP's provide some space that could be used for storage of photos. If yours doesn't, however, check out http://photobucket.com/ They will host your photos for free. A lot of members of another (non-auto) forum I visit use it a lot. Once your photos are online, it's very simple, then, to include them in your postings here.

Wow! Hey Tom thanks very much! This one is real easy to use. It has a check box you have to un-check in order to make your pictures availble to anyone.
Now all you guys can see my car...cool.

"maybe the car is M-O-D-I-F-I-E-D"

Macky Wacky.......nope, I don't understand your post because even a old dog like me can see that the '32 coupe is undergoing a restoration process and the rear fenders have not been installed. ha ha!

I think that you are "M-O-D-I-F-I-E-D"! ha ha! I kill me!

Nice car RGwiz! Thanks for the photo! Keep us updated on how you are coming along with your project.
