Next thing you know, "American Chopper" will feature Paul Jr. taking a cutting torch to nice old Harleys and Indians. That should really raise the ratings.

Those ratings 'ideas' you guys are 'talking' about have been talked about long ago in the 'planning meetings.' With 35 years in the radio/TV/Advertising business, believe me. I'd bet most of the farm on that!!!

Wasn't there, my foot. You read right past it.

The American Chopper 'idea' 30chevtruck mentions isn't as far fetched as he imagines.....

I met one of the guys who was on 3 or 4 of the Overhaulin' shows and became friends with him. I saw him at a local car show that weekly brings about 30 cars. He had a nice rat rod F*** and he was a super nice guy. His name is Matt Horris and it turns out he lives right by me! He knows Chip Foose, Boyd Coddington, and George Barris, to name a few. You never know who may live right around you!

As we say in the Human Psychology Circles, watching Boyd’s show emphasis & clarifies How Dysfunctional People Work, or attempt to....

So would I give this man $85,000.00 and wait for my new Hot Rod ? No way Jose!!

I shop people, not parts.

That 59 looked beautiful coming out of the garage. Even if I had a ton of money to just throw away I would not destroy a perfectly fine stock vehicle. If I really wanted to have a customized 59, I would probably keep the stock version and find another example to customize. But $25k???

As far as Boyd and his crew goes, they just pass those costs on to the customer so no skin off their noses. If these guys are actually as skilled as the product they eventually produce, they don't act like it on the show. "Go get me an 11/19 wrench" Ya gotta love it. And really, how long does it take to remove a bumper??

The guy who is the foreman (I don't know his name) has more patience than I could ever muster for these guys. Although the end result is usually pretty nice.

It's all done in the name of entertainment!!

Yes it is entertaing. And word on the street is BC gets a LOT of money for ea show. I mean a LOT!!!

And from where I sit good for him. His show, his car and he can do what ever he wants to it.

But ownership & behavior are two different things...

You know, Michael41 pretty much bottom lines it when he says,

His show, his car and he can do what ever he wants to it.
That certainly doesn't mean we have to "approve" of it.

It's exactly what I had to go through regarding the guy who bought my very stock, quite nice '68 Impala convertible. He sent me some pix not long after he got it clearly showing and telling me he was making a 'low-rider' out of it.

Absolutely amazing to me. But I just shrugged my shoulders and said to myself, "Self it's HIS name on the title now..... you'd better just forget about it!!!"

So, I took my advice and did!!!

Clearly one of those "sad but true" situations, huh DdeuceMan.

I still just shake my head when I think of what the guy did to that (really) nice '68 convertible I USED to own.

Incidentally you can see a picture of it when you click on "my signature" (www.rdgsons.com etc. etc.) at the bottom of my posts. I think there's even a little icon thingy that pops up in the bottom right corner so you can enlarge the picture a bit. It's just one 'sorta small' picture; but it gets the point across that it WAS a nice car.

And the 'photo credit' goes to BigBob of Adlerwood Manor, WA..... (Thanks again BigBob!!)

There is a flip side to this, I have two original Chevrolets that we got a better price on because the ex-owners knew we would keep their relatives' "babies" in original condition and repair and garaged except when they were being driven in club events. But like you said Bill You have the money and he has the car and title. I just hope you made him pay a premium for the 68. It was callous of him to have to let you know what he was planning for the nice conv.

Yeah, MM. As if I even cared. Especially after I heard what he had to say.

I mean it was a done deal and all. But I've always wondered why he felt compelled to even bother to tell me his plans???

Did he REALLY think he'd get some kind of "approval" from me?!?!?!? I mean the car was out of it's way original. OK, 15" rallys and radials and even blue dots. But cripes.....

Regarding "paying a premium" - He paid more than anybody else had offered. And we went round and round on the price pretty good. Put it this way, nobody's ever told me to my face that I sold it (or any of my nice cars) "too cheap."

Anyway, I took the money to the bank and moved on.

Last night was episode two of Coddington's "Butcher Shop" and the '59 Chevy. Not much is left of the '59 Bel Air now (they still insist on calling it an Impala however), except for part of the frame and the bottom section of the body. Everything else is gone. And, yes, the car is definitely going to be a low rider roadster.

Last night they made a new windshield frame for the roadster, and they cut out the instrument panel and moved it back six inches. Also, the firewall has a large hole cut into it for the big block engine. It is hard to believe that just a short time ago this was a beautiful, all original car sitting in a garage.

Oh yes, "Machine Shop Mike" apparently wanted some time off since it appears that he isn't too happy about this project (maybe he is the only one there with some common sense), so he received permission from the company secretary to take a few days off. That is another weird deal...the secretary is Boyd Coddington's ex-wife and she works there with Boyd and his new wife! That must be fun! ha ha !

As usual, Duane the forman dude, was running around like crazy barking orders and most of the fellows were ignoring him.

At any rate, tune in next week to see how radical this once all original '59 Bel Air (oops...I mean Impala) becomes. The show should be interesting and, unfortunately for the '59 Chevy, it will probably be a pretty neat low rider roadster when completed. laugh laugh laugh

:( snore Not that I wanted to see such a beautiful, original car chopped up, but last nights show was a real let down. Roy and his helper made one panel for the bike and fooled around a lot. Wasn't much done to the car. Could have missed this show and caught up on my sleep!!!

HA, I did miss the show; but didn't catch up on my sleep. Very busy getting ready for a "family garage sale."

I haven't seen the show for some number of weeks (maybe months) now and it sure doesn't sound like I'm missing much. The last car I even had much interest in was the '56 210 (as I recall) that they were hurrying to get ready for SEMA around a year or two ago. I thought it turned out pretty nicely, even tho not stock / original.

I guess the only 'silver lining' is that the original parts that BC trashes maybe are helping someone to restore another car back to original, even if the parts show up on ebay... ok

That's an interesting idea, Wayne.

Does anybody know if BC (or one of his employees) has an eBay handle / account / etc. etc. and actually buys and sells on eBay???

Twould be interesting to sorta 'monitor' his auctions, if "we" could find out what his 'name' is on eBay (if he actually has one)!!!!!

Are are right Bill, I bet the parts are sold on ebay by one of the guys in the shop or BC himself.

On the off change that he 'gives' the parts away (if we believe TV) when you see something you want, email him and maybe he would sell the part to you. Looks like he will do almost anything for money....

Gator,

I understand the fourth word in the second sentence should be chanCe, not change; but I don't have any idea what you meant in the first sentence.
