Probably a bunch of us that considered a hitch in the U.S. Armed Forces as our moral and civic duty, since it was kind of a requirement of the draft back then anyway!

I searched for years for the "friends and neighbors" that were quoted in my draft letter and finally just had to give up. Never did identify them.

Here is another one, I did identify a few of my parents neighbors but all my friends denied any connection with the greetings. In memory of my friend Jack B., who gave it all outside Inchon Korea 1950! Thanks again Jack.

Inchon, another fine operation by the guys with the Leathernecks, Also a very fine operation was the capture of that Korean brewery, That is what a real Objective should really be. Simper Fi! to all those brown shoe Jarheads out there.

My father died in service (USArmy Air Corp) in Sept, 1944. I was/am the sole surviving son. I was 'thinking' about disregarding my deferment and enlisting in 1964. My (step) dad suggested my mother would not think that was a 'good idea.' So, I didn't. Bill.

I had a college deferment but I enlisted anyway in 1965. I was still able to graduate from college and within six months I was on active duty. laugh laugh laugh

JYD, I guess you were on a K-9 boat?
That is kinda bad, for a Dawg,Specially for a pup like you were back then!... since boats only have one wheel and it does not have whitewalls or a hubcap to water down?

I finished riding around on them old gray boats courtesey of the squids in 1964 and went inactive.

I had quite a fondness for an LST stationed in San Diego back in the early 60's they were Known as good sailors, they put up with us Jarheads loading, unloading, loading and unloading a Marine artillary battery of 105 MM howitzers training for the next big Invasion that never came. They always fed us round-steak sandwiches three meals a day.

We always had good chow. If our galley could feed the troops, they ate our chow, If the galley couldn't furnish enough chow for all the troops, then we all ate rations.----Hello Vienna sausage and collision mats! ! (pancakes ? ? ?)

Hey Tinnocker,

My wife was reading your post and pointed out that a picture of your LST-262 at Normandy is located at this websight.

Big Bob is apparently somewhat prone to the UNDERSTATEMENT..... amazing; yeah - at the very least!!

It seems like it's even 'more' than that!! Altho I don't know what "that" word might be.

(Maybe the moderators can figure out some way to make the picture into a more manageable size.....)

Bill.

If you intend to place a picture on Chevy Chat, first move the picture into one of your picture programs and reduce the size to not exceed 700 wide. Then upload the picture and it will be the exact width of a normal entry in the thread.

A picture wider than 700 just throws all the parameters off and makes it difficult to view.

The picture above is a 2946 X 2249, much too large.
