It's a slogan i've seen on USA1 licence plates. They were installed at some of the dealers mainly during the late 50s thru the 70s. Some say "putting you first" & there are others too.
They must've been slogans used by Chevrolet at the time...but which time frame for "See America's First" .....joe

I think the slogan you all are refering to was "SEE THE USA IN YOUR CHEVROLET" which was made famous by Dinah Shore in the '50's

"See The USA In Your Chevrolet" was another period slogan, but was a different slogan than the one that we are referring too here. As I remember in the not too distant past, "See America First" was used in Chevrolet advertising as well. laugh laugh laugh

Joe: I just flat out don't remember "See America First." Memory bank just doesn't include that slogan. Period. And the 'odd' part about it is I was in the ad biz for around 35 years. And have been a Chev Nut (excuse me Gene) for around 50 years.

As I recall the "USA - 1" promo plates first appeared in 1957. They were white (background) with USA-1 in 'gold.' I don't think I've ever see any slogan on them, let alone "See America First."

So all I can tell you is USA-1 first appeared in 1957. Bill.

I have just finished thumbing through my copy of Campbell-Ewald, A Celebration of Over Seven Decades of Chevrolet Advertising, and find something that may be what you are after. (Campbell-Ewald did the Chevrolet advertising for the 70 years mentioned).

Anyway, in 1972 the slogan was "Chevrolet. Building a Better Way to See the U.S.A.".

Could this be what you were in reference to?

john gill asked: "Why Can't you find a tag like this?"

Maybe it's because nobody's around who could BELT IT OUT like Dinah Shore, who, sadly, has been gone for some years now!!!

Somehow I can't see Britney Spears (or any other current twit) singing that and having anybody even care. Unless a Chevy guy heard it and 'cared' enough to want to throw a F*rd hubcap at her head!!!

Bill.

I've seen the "See America First" slogan, but don't remember it associated with Chevrolet. Here's a link to a website with more:
http://www.nps.gov/crla/saf.htm

Quote
Landscape painters and photographers were hired to promote the spectacular scenery along the rail routes and lure tourists away from Europe. The newly established national parks like Yellowstone, Yosemite, Mount Rainier, and Crater Lake featured prominently in rail advertising by 1900, but many Americans continued to spend their summers in mountain resorts across the Atlantic. This began to change when the Great Northern Railway adopted the "See America First" slogan in 1906 to promote their budding resort facilities in northern Montana.

The slogan was suggested by the railroad's official photographer, Fred Kiser. Some of his work was subsequently exhibited at the U.S. Capitol and allowed the railroad to secure passage of a bill establishing Glacier National Park.

Although Glacier owed its existence to "See America First", European resorts furnished the models for tourist accommodations. Hotels and cabins built by the Great Northern copied Swiss architecture while the railroad's employees in the park donned costumes recalling the Alps. Similar facilities appeared in other national parks and helped to popularize them.
