Thanks for the compliments. Sure appreciate it! It's guys like you who really enjoy the stories that keeps us doing these adventures every year. The JYD Adventures have been appearing in the G&D since 1987, and we ain't done yet!

Yes, too bad that you weren't with us for that episode, but we are having another Junkyard Dog Adventure in August of this year, so you can come on that one if you like. Heck, one dude is coming all the way from Australia to attend! There will be more information concerning the upcoming event posted in the Non-VCCA Events section of Chevy Chatter sometime in the next couple of weeks. Check it out and then sign up! You will have a blast, and you would enjoy meeting all of the great guys that come with us on these adventures every year too! :cool2: wink laugh laugh laugh

JYD! Until I joined the VCCA I have always thought all my life that I had an abnormal obsession with JUNK YARDS. Ever since I started driving at age 12 and always owned those $25 cars, I found myself rummaging for parts to keep em runnin. We had yards that would let you bring your own tools and get what you wanted. Our local VCCA club here have found a rural goldmine that we will be visiting soon that is a 3rd and 4th generation operation that is closed and only opened by invitation, were lookin forward to that since their collection goes back to the early 20`s. I`ll definetely have my camera. I knew that you have been doing these articles for quite some time and sure do like them. So I guess I`m not the only one with this obsession! By the way, thanks for the invite.
:) laugh laugh auto

The wrecking yard sounds way cool! Definitely take some photos (lots of them) and if you want to send them to me I will include them in a JYD story.

And the invite is always open. We have many dudes that come with us on these adventures. Some belong to the VCCA, and some don't. The JYD tours are open to any dude that has an interest. laugh laugh laugh wink

Mine got here on the 6th. That's four days early!
Hey, JYD, it was nice to see the pic of the bikes included. Do you remember the bike that had a horn in the frame tank? Was that also a Huffy?

J.C. Higgins had a horn in the frame tank. Got one for Christmas back in the early 1950's. That was a great bicycle....which I had it now! :( :( :(

The McDonalds has two restored mid-fifties Schwinn bikes on display and they have the "Deluxe" horn tanks and chrome shock absorber springs on the front. Really nice ones. All I could afford was a Western Flyer with fenders and an aftermarket luggage rack, (no taillight just a round reflector) but since it was "stripped down" it would outrun my brother's Tank horn and fender headlight equipped J.C. Higgins lead sled.

I don't remember J.C.Higgins. I do recall the Schwinn with the horn and that cool fender light.
I had a modified fat frame Schwinn with chrome fenders and white wall baloon tires.
I think the Schwinn was the only bike to have a "built in" kick stand.

I believe J.C Higgins was sold by Sears.

Yes, J.C. Higgins was definitely sold by Sears, and there was a long line of J.C. Higgins products as well. I still have my left-handed baseball glove that I used when I was in the little league. My dad purchased my J.C. Higgins glove at Sears when I was about 9 years old. laugh laugh laugh laugh

Wasn't the JC Higgins bike made for Sears by Schwinn. They looked real similar. Sorta just like the mid-50's Sears car called AllState was made by Kaiser.
