FYI:
Sunday at 8:00 on PBS is a special on Cuba and from the ads I have seen and what they are saying they will be showing some of the cars that are being driven today in Cuba. From the brief scene I saw it looked like a 1950's parking lot downtown (pre-mall) with a lot of Chevys.
When (not if) Cuba becomes a free country there will be a bunch of antique car dealers going to Cuba...

hi gator, that's a great program...it's amazing what these guys have to cobble together to keep the old iron rolling, as correct parts are impossible to come by... epi

Some years ago, Mr. Castro offered a lot of vintage automobiles for sale to raise hard cash. As I remember, there were few takers particularly since there was no legal way for American buyers to buy and import into the USA. If...when...someday, the island nation becomes free, it will be interesting to see what happens to the aged Cuba auto fleet. Many of these cars have been maintained with very clever but quirky repairs.

It will be very interesting to see what has been done to keep the cars running.
Remember the Chevy truck ('55) that was made into a boat and the Navy had to sink it after taking the people off?

I saw the preview to this a few years ago at the AACA Winter Meeting in Philly. The guy who put it together is Rick Snitzler (not sure of the spelling of the last name) You really will be amazed what they do to keep them running. There is a lot of high end cars.Unlike what we see in other countries where everything was a low-mid line four door. I heard that there was a Caddy dealer in Havana that was one of the larger volume dealers, after all it was a big mob hangout. Enjoy the program John
