The radio in my '34, which is more primitive than a '36, has better tone than my newer cars. With the proper antenna they will recieve stations from a considerable distance. They worked amazingly well.

smitty i said the same thing about my 35 coupe most people said it was a waste of time as i allready had the delete plate installed well i went and got one of those ray holland re conditioned radio things with the over head speaker man did that cause things to stir no one wanted to know if it worked but what the wanted to know was what is that thing in the over head . i guess they have never seen a overhead speaker . any way here in south texas all the stations i could get was foreign and i could not understand sounded to me like spanish and could get very little of that until i took the under the running board antena off and put a cowl mount on may have worked back when you were in a town with a am tower in town . the cowl mount did not come on a 35 few people know the differance and when you get up in the panhandle and get it tuned to a good country station and that bob wills swing starts coming out of that overhead speaker and i cant help letting the other chevy people on tour listen to a little of it on the portable walkie talkie radio . they say i sure wish my chevy had a radio and that heat coming out of the hot water heater sure feels good on this twenty degree morinig . like gene says if you close to a am station they work with a proper antena besides that my copilot sure likes it and no trouble getting her to ride and it helps to pick up women hope this helps

i think ray said that 33 was the first year they were an accesory and i have some to say late 32 im sure that if you brought it to the dealer and wanted a radio if he could get it in it had a radio . just about all of the cars that i have when i got them the dash had been altered for some kind of radio the 31 had a 8 track not quiet a dealer option but it was in there . the early under the dash type were easy to install in most cars . a lot of companys made radios or parts my 35 head was made by crosley i have seen some made by motorola but did not have the chevy bowtye

Did the 31's have a radio as an accessory? The reason is ask is that my dad had a '31 coach and I found a contraption in the garage one day. I asked my uncle what it was and he said it was the radio out of the Chevy. It was about the size of an orange sliced in half, had a krinkle looking black paint, the dial was a pointer with a half moon attached at the bottom. I remember the numbers starting at 88 and going up from there. It had 2 knobs. One for volume and one for moving the pointer along the dial. Anybody ever heard of this type of animal?

EVERYTHING I'VE READ DIDN'T HAVE ANY INFO ON A RADIO EITHER. BUT NOW AS I THINK BACK AND COUPLED WITH WHAT I KNOW NOW, MY OLD MAN WAS A MASTER RIGGER SO HE PROBABLY GOT ONE SOMEPLACE AND MADE IT WORK ON THE CHEVY.

Do a search (above) for 'Radio' and you will find a lot of strings.
