Among the "stuff" that I rec'd with my '40 Chev Coupe was a "Center Sun Shade Panel". Obviously this is to fit between the two existing sun shades.
But ... not sure specifically how to mount it. Guess that the existing Phillips Head screw in the center window frame is to be removed. But ... don't believe that there's enough support to simply place the accessory shade there without some extra bracket or something (?).
Any suggestions ? (believe the accessory is new - never been installed !) Many thanks.

You have the right idea. Been a long time since I installed one on a customers car. I remember it was a lot of head scratching and wondering when I did it. You say NEW? Probably no box and instructions. I took a quick look in Chev's of the 40's and did not see it.

Ray,I have the original box but no instructions are included.
Also, on this same subject, I've not been able to locate an Accessories Installation Manual for the '40. Don't know if one was published.

Hi fred, You might consider contacting the 1940 TA. He is #11 in the G&D. I don't know if there was an installation book for 1940. Back in those days any accessory came in a box with installation instructions and templates if necessary. You might also consider contacting Chev's of the 40s and see if they do have a copy. They list many instructions for accessories. At least your job with the center visor is much easier than the problem I face. I have a fully restored spot light to install in my 54,000 mile original Eagle coupe. Nothing is more exciting that to walk up to a door post/window post with a huge electric drill and let fly. I only get one chance.

Fred,
I have one of those sunvisors for my 40 chev. It is held up with 2 phillips screws, one on either side of center. There is a slotted screw that adjusts the tension on the "ball pivots" right dead center. I have mine out at the moment so if you need pictures of mine for any reason, let me know. After having the reveals wood grained, I'm hesitant to put it back in as I don't want to leave any marks on the new work...I suppose I'll get over that syndrome some day <haha>.
Good Luck

The center sunshade for 1940 is featured in the "Genuine Chevrolet Accessories for 1940" booklet that is readily available as a reprint. The booklet is 5.5" x 8.5". The booklet does not really describe how to mount it though, but it gives a great picture of this accessory. However in the "1940 Accessory Data Book" the center sunshade is listed on page #116. This booklet is very rare and only gives word descriptions with no pictures. It states under Installation: "Remove two windshield moulding screws. Mount Center Sun Shade with screws furnished. Install Rear View Mirror Extension." I have had a local machine shop make me a few of the rear view mirror extensions. They were made to be exact copies of an original extension that I have. You need one of these extensions on the rear view mirror, so that you have clearance for the center sun shade. I sell the extensions for $25 + shipping.

Thanks all. I installed the center sunshade using your input. The strange looking part that was included in the box - I understand now was the extension for the rear view mirrow. All is well.
