Here's how to do a carburetor rebuild on a Model A **** - you don't even have to get out of the car, you let it roll backwards downhill in third gear, engine turning over backwards, with the choke pulled out.

D2D2 are you sure about that? I drove a Model A for 3 years in highschool and a model B two years in college and never knew that! I had a wash tub full of Zenith carbs I bought from a salvage yard and I just soaked them in carb cleaner and changed them out every month or so whether they needed changeing or not! (did you learn this on one of your trips to Arkansas?)

Very funny MrMack I also had a Model A in high school, a good car for me at the time even though I sometimes rode it hard and put it away wet (do they say that in Texas?). That was in east Tennessee where there were lots of steep hills and speed traps, like the one that extended from the Cumberlands down through Tennessee and Georgia and into northern Florida. Some of my kinfolk were responsible for operating some parts of it. As a kid, I knew about crooked law enforcement, and that was many years before I got scammed in Arkansas.

Junkyard Dog, Mike, Mr. Mack, Big Bob, Chevy Chip, and Shocks....... GENTLEMAN: The Berrymans B-12 worked. Finally had the time to soak the Tillotson JR5A carb overnight, cleaned the float, within an inch of it's life, and after reassembly..... SHE RUNS!!!! THANKS to ALL of You Shocks I really think the problem was the float, it had so much gunk on it wouldn't allow the needle to seat.( to heavy???) Adjustment... Set the needle valve on the bottom of the carb at 1/2 turn (open), 1 full turn on the air mixture screw, (open) the one on top with the spring, and I up'ed the idle adjustment as we live at 10,000 feet.

Last weekend the car started and ran fine. This weekend is another story. The carb floods without any choke applied. I'm athink'in it's time to trash this Tollison carb and go back to the original Carter.

I had a similar problem with my 1930 carter carb. It would work fine, then after a couple of days it would flood. Clean it put it back on and it worked. Turned out there was a pin hole leak in the float so after a period of time the float began to sink. When I cleaned it I guess it dried out. Replaced the float, and all better. Sent it to the JYD to be rebuit, and it is even better than better!!!. Looks good too:)

Hi guys
Not really into these models but enjoy the read. Thought I'd throw in my 2 cents worth.
Speaking of yelping dogs, a mate of mine test his magnetos on his dog, if the dog yelps the maggy is ok, if the dog just wanders off in discust, the maggy doesn't work.
Does the JYD offer this service?
Now on a more serious note, there is a bloke down here (Aus) that I'm sure can supply a kit for a Tilitson carby as they were used often on Chevs down here. He also makes rebuild kits for all early Chevs (and probably late ones)
His name is Derek Page and you can contact him by looking in the 12-28 section under 1927 ignition

I know of one Tillotson that's on a 1930 truck. The owner likes it because he can adjust the high speed fuel mixture.

I found that you gotta be careful using a smart mutt for a Mag test, Old Duke the wondering dog ate all the wires offen our Farmall after we used him for a sparkplug!

I have run into many dudes in the past that had a replacement Tillotson carb. on their 1929-31 Chevys. And, those that did change them out for the correct Carter 150-S really noticed the difference in performance, and they preferred the Carter over the Tillotson. Not only that, you can get rebuild kits for the Carter a whole lot easier too!
