Anyone have any problems when using an accessory heater shut-off valve? I was thinking about installing one on my 39 Mster Dlx to keep it cooler inside the car in the summer. cool However, a friend told me my engine might overheat quicker. :( Any advise?

I have one on my 47, and have had no problems.
As far as your car overheating, there really is not that much hose from the heater to the engine so any cooling advantage would be very slight.

While crossing Nebraska one year with 105 degree heat (at 65 MPH with a 4.22 rear end)(with four other '37's and '38's with the same rear end following)I did turn on the heater blower from time to time and the temp. needle would move down a hair.....usually run my heater shut off valve in the closed position in the summer. As fleetmas47 said the difference would be slight and only temporary.+it never gets that hot where you live wink

...Or just take one hose off and connect the shortest one hose to the in and out of the engine.

Waht does the accesory heater shutoff valve look like for 39'? Anyone have a picture? I have this brass valve in the shape of a Y screwed into my water pump with a seized dumb little wing nut style screw on the top. Is this what you guys are talking about?

Yes-and no.Sounds as if you have a 1940 and up valve. The 1939 and prior does not have the winged screw type. The coolant flow is shut off by loosening a lock nut and then turning a hex bolt in the center of the lock nut.

If you would have listed your Email address in your profile I would have sent you a picture :
