Heard alot about the very sought after "Red Ball" Antennas.
Question 1: Why are they so rare???
Question 2: Are these the Original 96" side mounted units offered by chevy as an accessory?
The reason I ask Is I just got one!!!
Thanks.......................fleetmas47

Actually the only antenna available for the 1946-48 car was a cowl type, part number 985995 and sold for $7.50. This was a three section extendable antenna. The end was a ball. The "Red Ball" antennas were made primarily by Motorola and Philco. They came in both rod and whip types, extendable, 3 and 4 sections and were topped off with the red plastic ball. Although the steel ball antenna is correct, the red ball draws the most attention. 1947-48 commercial units, when equipped with a radio, used the rod type antenna. All radios and antennas were dealer installed accessories for this time frame. (This was my job back in those days).

Thanks ray for all the info!!!!
Did not know that Motorola, and Philco made the "Red Ball" antennas...
My car came with the rod type, but this red ball sure looks sweet, and would look great on my car!
Looked at one at IOLA last year, but the price was way too steep, almost over $100 dollars.
This one is almost perfect, and even has the orig. cables intact. The price was just too good to pass up......
Again thank you!!!!!!! fleetmas47
