What does the group consider a safe, conserving, road speed for these cars? We are new to Chevy just having purchased a 1932 RS Coupe, Confederate Model. Has anyone installed an over-drive or two speed rear end or changed out the ring & pinion to reduce, somewhat, the rpms? Russ

With a stock ring and pinion, 45 to 50 MPH is about right to feel comfortable. If you install one of the new 3.50 ring and pinion gear sets that are available, then 55 to 65 is not a problem....that is with everything else being equal (new engine and etc.) yipp

By the way, if your car has a rumble seat, it is known as a "Sport Coupe", not an "RS Coupe". Have fun with your new toy! It will be a great car for you! laugh laugh laugh

Hey JYD.

You didn't mention the "free wheeling method". I did do 60 mph down hill one time. Although I'll never do it again. The white nuckels never went away! laugh

High Bees...Welcome to the world of VCCA Chatter, and enjoy your Sport Coupe. I never sat in my rumble seat as a passenger have you? Just wondering what it feels like.

Your '32 should cruise all day at 55 mph or a little more. I used to drive my '31 on the Interstate at 55-60 often. It was our second car in the late 60s. Since I don't live near an Interstate and only have a '31 Fire Truck (early six) I don't drive that fast most times. The Fire Truck does 45-50 on the flat with out problems. Does not stop as well as a car so speed is held down on two lane roads. Besides with a counter-balanced crank and 8-10 more hp the 1932 will run faster than a '31. We drove the '32 pickup at 45-50 most times but 60 was not a problem.

The bottom line is do what ever is comfortable. The drive line will make a lot more noise than you are used to but if in good condition it will handle the speeds that you feel are safe.

Jist be sure your brakes are in good condition. In todays traffic that is very importand. I drive our '31 45 - 50 most of the time.

See you down the back roads. Jim

I have owned several 32's and could drive 55-60 and not feel uncomfortable as far as the drive train. The brakes worried me more than anything else. I have always made sure there was plenty of stopping distance. I have purchased a set of 3.50 gears from Larry Jackson but have not tried them out yet. I am looking forward to seeing how they do.
