On the 47-53 trucks, other than the two squares of felt insulation glued to the toeboard, firewall, was there any insulation or pad under the rubber floormat? Or was it just the rubber mat on the floor?
Also on my 50 which is original paint, the original standard left hand taillight bracket has traces of blue paint on it. Were these brackets attached before the bed was painted, therefore receiving the body color? I was always under the assumption they were a semi-gloss black like the taillight.

Thanks, Bob

For a time in the winter of 1950-51 I worked in the new car get ready Dept.I remember the mat as being rubber only for the trucks. They did not come installed (cars or trucks) and it was necessary for (me) to install them.Later on when I worked in the Parts Dept. the new replacement mats had no felt on the back also. This was one of the reasons that the trucks were so noisy in the cabs.

I am not 100% sure but I believe the tail light bracket was "colored".

Bob,

I just redid my 48 1/2 ton and it had a "felt" insulation pad under the floor mat as well as the two floor board units on the toeboard/firewall. It had cutouts for a floor shift.

If it had cut outs for a floor shift and had the 3 speed with column shift the mat probably was a replacement. The factory mats for column shift did not have the floor shift cut-out.

In looking thru the 1947 truck engineering feature book it describes the front floor mat as "A 1/8" thick mat of non-blooming rubber backed by 1/4" of jute insulation".

The 1947-49 floor mat has a different part number than a 1950-53 .

I have a floormat that fits all cabs from (1500 thru 6500) cabs that had a provided punch out area for the floor shift, advertised as a reproduction of the original, they were available for 1947 thru 1955 1st series and for 1955 2nd series thru 1959 (except COE). A jute or felt pad was available for extra $$$. Anyone have a need for one, 55-59 with jute pad cheap $20 plus shipping? if I haul it to Grand junction there will be a delivery charge. I sold the truck sans the mat.
