1966 C10....maybe not my first choice if I was to buy a vehicle to restore, but it was my grandpas and I can remember riding in it as a kid. Would like to keep it original!

Going back to the 1966 250 engine color.I looked thru my info again and could find no more on the correct color. One thing that did come to mind is about a 1966 1/2 ton PU in this area.It has been in several VCCA shows in the mid-west over the years.Has taken Best of Show in the truck class. Is a restored that was in very good original condition.Sure the owner painted the engine using the original for a sample. It was blue.

You could use anything that you find for 1955 and up (55-57 more common) for a guide. The engine was painted assembeled so it would all be blue (or blue/green).Any bolted on brackets black.Fuel pump and carburetor and alternator natural.Starter black, etc.air filter black-also fan and fan pulley

Maybe this will help on engine color: http://www.danroy.com/truck/tech01.html
Also believe black items were more of a satin finish not gloss or flat.

The air filter was gloss--the remainder had a little less gloss.

That list does contain some errors. The 1966 pass car 250 was orange-not blue as an example.

I have discussed with Bob Hensel the blue 250 truck engine that I mentioned and he feels that blue is correct for it.

The list is also incorrect in that it shows no 250 for a 66 passenger truck, and shows the 327 for a '65. Both became available for the truck in 1966.

The 250 was the standard 6 cyl. engine for conventional trucks. The 230 used in G vans...probably was confusing to look-up etc.
I know Bob put a lot of effort into it but some of the material is rather mind bogling to read thru.

At that time Chevrolet was getting away from different colors as a means of engine ID.By the '70's they were all orange.

That would fall in with my thoughts also.

When I first saw the local '66 I confronted Bob with it.He maintainded blue was correct in 1966.......

Would this be close to the blue you describe?

It's the original paint...but 40 years old. Detroit Diesel, or alpine green are as close as I have been able to come in matching it.

The sample pictured looks as I thought it would.Has fadded a bit over the years. The two blues that come to mind are the 1953-62 235 blue or the 1977-79 blue (All Chevrolet engines were blue for those years)---then they went to black.I believe there is a chrysler blue you could check on also.I am not familiar with the two that you listed.

http://www.duplicolor.com/products/colors/highheat.html

I've tried the alpine green and GM Blue side by side... alpine green looks closer in real life.
