When i bought My 66 the brakes had to be pumped twice to get pedal. The p.o. said they worked fine untill he broke and replaced a brake line.I have bled the systmn several times haveing a helper pump several times and then hold while the bleeder is opend and closed before the pedal is releasd.I even replaced the rear bleaders with speedy bleeders[one way valve] and re-bled and still the same.If the master were bad wouldnt i lose pedal while holding it down? Could the vacume asist unit cause this.rON.

Slowrider
I have found that pumping the pedal quick causes the brake fluid to froth up therefore spreading any air in the system wider and harder to remove.
I prefer to start at wheel furthest from master cylinder, open bleeder push pedal down close bleeder before release pedal. Dont do what I generally do and forget to top up reseviour befoe it empties or you start all over again.
The other way is with a hose connected to bleeder and other end into brake fluid open bleeder and slowly pump pedal 6 or 7 times with bleeder open then close bleeder while pedal down.
