Does anyone know the width of a 61 step side 1/2 ton PU in order to load it on my trailer?

The truck Data book does not show the width.....but does show the width of the cab at the widest place which is the hump just below the door handles.....this is 78".If the bumpers stick out a bit farther I would figure 80" or so.

Thanks for that information, looks like the 75" available between rails would be a bit tight. My 51 PU chasse was close in way of the running boards, but that was without fenders. An actual measurement could confirm this.

If you are using an open type trailer you wont need the full body width measurement as only the wheels and possibly the lower body (sill rails) will need to fit inside the trailer. I dont know the widths of your truck or the trailer you plan on using but wheel track plus about 12" would be absolute minimum needed for open trailer.
If you are using a covered trailer you will need the full width and some extra so who ever drives it in can get out.

Your response made me realize that I wasn't clear on the details of the trailer I am using. The rails are fixed welded angle iron construction surrounding the wood deck and I was just trying to figure out if there was enough clearance to load the truck without damaging its exterior.
The truck is 5 hours distance and is driveable. I will probably be better off taking enough gear to tow it back if there is any trouble.

Hans, What is the distance between The rails? I will measure my distance between the fenders and it will clear the sides of a pickup, you may not be able to open the pickup doors if the rails are too tall. I seem to remember your trailer as being a standard width utility trailer.

Originally 76" inside rails, but the previous owner did some creative load binding outside the rails and now only clear 74-3/4" near the forward end. Rail height runs 13-3/4" from top of deck boards. I have crawled out open windows before, after loading.

Follow up:
I ended up driving the 61 PU back 300 miles.
Just for curiosity, I lined up the trailer in question with ramps down and tried to back up the ramps. The tail pipe would not clear the back lip using 4' long ramps. Then drove the front end up the ramps and discovered the bumper was wider than the sides and sighting down the sides, the cab also was too wide to clear. Glad I didn't drag the trailer expecting to be able to load the truck.
