After dealing with somewhat loose steering for the past couple of years on my 59 Apache I have decided it is time to replace the steering box. I have changed out the kingpins and drag link maybe 2 years ago. At that time I could not tighten the adjustment screw on the box any further. It was as tight as it was ever going to be but I still had some play at the wheel.

So now I've decided to replace the box. I understand the process but wanted to get any advice from those of you that have done this before. One of the things I'm concerned with is removing the pittman arm. Will a regular puller work or is there a trick?

Any advice on this changeout will be greatly appreciated. It's new territory for me so I've come to the guys with the experience. Thanks!

If you are removing the steer box from vehicle it will probly be easier to leave the pitman arm attached till the unit is on the workbench. Generaly an ordinary gear puller will do the job but some times you may need to secure the jaws together to prevent them slipping off.
