I was just trying to get the blocks on my rear axle (that the rear springs rest on) off of my '39 and, of course, the screws are as tight as crap. I broke the bit for my impact screw driver and another screw driver trying to get them off. Anyway, what the heck are grease fittings doing on those blocks?

If your truck has enclosed driveshaft with only 1 flexible joint those blocks allow the suspension to travel without bending the driveline. An open driveshaft has a flexible joint both ends and axle housing fixed rigid to the springs.

That was one of my guesses, but I wasn't sure. Any tips for getting them off? Thanks a lot, Bob

I use a 7/16 long 1/4" drive socket and a ratchet.( I assume it is a straight Alimite fitting)

I meant the screws that hold the two halves of the blocks together. I soaked them in PB Blaster and the next day they came off.
