Am I correct in assuming that the original rearend for my '39 1 1/2 ton (6.17 ratio) transfers the power to one wheel? If it is one wheel, which one is it? I am not too familiar with rearends yet, and I haven't finished the truck yet and never took it out.

The power is delivered to both rear wheels unless one wheel is on ice. Then all the power is delivered to the spinning wheel unless its a new car with Positraction or limited slip rear end.The the power is transfered to the "gripping" wheel.

And to keep the universe in relativity the wheel turning turns at two times the velocity of both wheels turning at the same velocity, when one wheel is not turning, hence the name differential!!!!!

The only ratios available on Chevy ton & half trux from 1933 - 2002 is 6.17 & 5.43. (Military offered a 6.67 and Flxible offered 4.75 on Chevy ton & half trux.) You might want to look at website <http://la.znet.com/~c1937/RPM.htm> for more details. If you have Asam option there is a lot of friction in the differential reducing wheel spin. Individual parking brakes can be used for the same effect. Good Luck, Lou
