I am taking apart the windshield for my '39 Chevy and I got the center division bar and the connector bracket for the crankout assembly off. I got all of the screws on one half of the windshield off, and tried to separate the halves. The top of the frame is sliding apart, but the bottom is frozen shut. Is this just a rust problem? Is the best solution just soaking it with penetrating oil?

The bottom is where any water would stand so it is customary to have this problem. You can do some gentle work with a rubber hammer or a wooden block and regular hammer. Good Luck.

I got out my Sawzall and cut the bottom inner brace in half. I finally pulled out the windshield halves and set them on my frame. All is good, right? NO. I came back in my garage 2 days later and saw one of the halves laying broken on the concrete floor. Don't you love when stuff like this happens? I guess its an old car thing.

Bob:

The old glass sure will keep you on your toes!

That's the way my entire rebuild went on my 59. Everytime I resolved one problem, it led to another usually more costly problem. In a strange way I really enjoyed the challenge, even though the frustration was enormous.

It will never be a show truck, but it sure has a lot of me in it.
