I live in Holland and I know about pretty sure that I am the only owner over here that has a 1954 First Series Suburban with a tailgate.
In our Dutch Old Pickup Club "De Pook" I am for 100% sure I am the only one.
Now I was wondering how many are there in the States (and Canada) that are still on the road?

I would guess that your Burb was made in Antwerp. They were different from US vehicles and offered some different body styles. There were many 1954 burbs in the US but '55 first series was the last year for Canopy Express. I don't have production figures for trucks newer than 1948. You night like to look at burbs on the web page < http://la.znet.com/~x1937/burb.htm >.

Well Jos, no such thing as 54 1st. Maybe you mean a 55 1st.
The 54 & 55 1st series AD trucks were made for only a year & a half.
The Task Force Design trucks [ 55-59 ] were intruduced in the middle of 55.
The 54 55 1st AD trucks were rare in their own right.
A Suburban made during this year & a half is very rare indeed.
Too bad GM did not keep records on specific models. They only kept a running # of complete comnmercial units that left the door & it coulda been a 1/2 ton or a 2 ton COE.

I'm sorry I've been late to answer you all.
Lou: The Suburban is a California one and was imported into Holland a few years ago.
Mothertrucker: The title says March 1954. The car was build in Oakland Ca. (by the VIN-decoder at http://www.americanclassic.com/paint_test.asp).
OldCarCook: Who is this guy with chassis #1?? chevy

Overall nice to here of you all.
Maybe I start joining VCCA again. I am former member #36246, but I broke membership because out of the G&D there was not so much information as a overseas member. Now with the great wide web it is much much better.
I regret the discussing elsewhere on this forum about banning non-members.
Personally I think this is the way how to get new VCCA-members, also from outer space (like Europe, Australia, Asia, etc.)

Jos,
Enjoyed your home page and information. Its nice to see the person and know intresting things about him when comunicating-especially from half way around the world.Would be nice if more people would do this.

I think that you confused the guys when you called it a 1954 1st design. The early 1955 trucks that looked like a 1954 were refered to as 1955 1st design is what they were thinking of.We just call the 1954's as that with no 1st design mentioned.I doubt if anyone could tell you as to how many of each rear door type are still "on the road" or even produced as I have never seen those figures published.

Yes,please rejoin the VCCA-

Hi Gene,
Nice to read about you again. Still thankfull for your help with the 'pac'.
My home page need an update badly, but in a stupid mood I deleted the webpage-software on my computer. But that is a different story.
I'm still in the fase of sanding and paint-stripping. I already made a trolly for the body, so I can move it around in my workshop. But first I want to finish all the little stuff. like windowtrims etc.
