I just bought a 1948 Chevy Suburban this afternoon, it is all original and in decent shape for being 55 years old.
The glass is all good, it has a Fulton sunvisor and very little rust other than the running boards.
The engine if free and it hasn't run in two years.
My question is how many of these
were made?
Thanks in advance,
Bob

I WOULD START BY CALLING CHEVROLET CUSTONER SERVICE 1-800-222-1020 OR WRITING TO PO BOX 7047
TROY, MICHIGAN 48007-7047. DON'T KNOW IF THEY CAN HELP BUT IT IS WORTH A TRY. JIM

Hey, Bob, neat vehicle! I'm restoring a '53 pickup, which of course has the same front end. I'm sure you know that the running boards are available as reproductions. Although not cheap, it is a very good reproduction. And the old 216 will no doubt run just fine, one you get all the old congealed gas cleaned out of everything, and tune it up.

I looked in George Dammann's "Sixty (and Seventy-Five) Years of Chevrolet," hoping to find your production figure. All he says (same in both books) is:

"During the model year, 715,992 cars were produced, 524,856 Fleetmaster/Fleetline, and 191,136 in Stylemaster. Calendar year production was 775,982."

He is totally silent about truck production numbers. I don't know where else to look.

Chevrolet did not break down individual production numbers on trucks.Suburban Carryalls were never produced in large quanities -my guess would be 10 or 12,000 per year.A neat and intresting unit worth restoring. dance

The suburban arrived this afternoon.
I haven't heard it run as of yet, but my son told me that when they started it up to get it off the flatbed it ran nice and smooth.
It is dark here and I just got home from work, so in the morning I will check the old girl out.
Just wanted to update you guys out there in Chevy Land.

Barry,

How'd you know that? Do you know how many 52 Suburbans were made? Thanks!

Sorry Jim, but I don't have the production figures for your truck. Most of what I have is for '48 and earlier.

I plan on posting a photo this weekend with the help of my brother-in-law.
If someone could post a photo of the key switch in the dash, we would appreciate it. This may sound crazy, but I tried to install it yesterday and my old brain couldn't get it right.
I took the bracket in back of the dash and installed the switch, but it didn't appear to match up with the hole in the dash.
Thanks agian,
Bob
