I may have the oportunity to aquire a Columbia Overdrive Transmission. Apparently the vehicle that it is in has the shortened torque tube to accomidate it. Has anybody had any experience with these transmissions? I have a 53 3100 that I am trying to restore back to original. Were these transmissions ever intalled at the factory or at the dealership as an option for an AD pickup? I am seriously thinking of putting this in my 53. Can someone shed some light on the pros and the cons of doing this.

The Columbia over drive was a two speed rear end most commonly installed on Ford products up thru 1948.......I think what you are describing is a Truxtel (may be mispelled) overdrive unit.It was spliced into the torque tube on
chevrolets and from what I see available from 1946 and up It was not a
chevrolet item.If you purchase one be sure to get all the required parts .The last one I saw installed had linkage to the clutch pedal and some thing on the firewall also if I remember correctly.I have some literature around that describes it so if you need more info. let me know and I'll find it. Have never seen it listed as fittng a 1/2 ton truck so torque tube diameter as well as drive shaft may be different.
