I'm looking for help. I am starting a restoration of my 64 stepside and can't remember of find the original wheel color. Black or White? I can't remember but it did have the white painted hubcaps and white painted bumpers. Those will remain the same. I want all original colors if possible. I will use modern quality paints to OEM codes though.

Thanks in advance,
Tom

I know on the passenger cars 59-64, the rims were black and not body color only when the car came equipt with full size wheel covers from the factory, as part of standard equiptment, such as the super sport models

Thanks for all the help. I just finished wire brushing the rear wheels in prep for sandblasting and discovered another surprise, too many years of using tube type tires. The valve stem holes are somewhat rusted out. No tubeless tires for this old girl unless I find a way to fill in some rusted areas. Again thanks for the help on the colors. This is slow work but I love it.

I believe either '63 or '64 was the crossover from a black wheel to a body color wheel in Chevrolet.(I'm leaning to '64) Of course GMC used body color wheels and even contrasting colors back to the 50's. 1960 ,'61,'62,and possibly '63 Chevy's had black as std with body color as optional(deluxe pkgs).
