I am looking at a 1948 chevy half ton pick up. It runs and drives, it has some rust here and there. The owner is asking 2000 dollars for it.

What would a truck like that be really worth? it is unrestored all original too.

I don't know what it would be worth, that depends
on you.If it's what you want,and you're going
to keep it,it doesn't matter. If it runs and doesn't smoke, and the body rust is something you
can handle,I'd say go for it. Offer him 1500 and
if he doesn't take,it walk away[but leave your
phone number].
I bought my 6400 at a farm auction.It didn't run
and had been sitting in the field for several
years. The body didn't have very much rust,a couple of tires were flat,it was a 95+ degree day,I could turn the motor over by hand, and it was one of the last things to sell.
I gave 165$ for it.
I have since put about 1000 into motor,350 into two front tires[gaspers had them],also just ordered 435$ of basic cab upgrades from chevy duty.
It's like any kind of custom car or truck,It's the fun you get from working on it
and driving it,that makes it worth it.

When you offer the guy $1500 for the truck and walk away, don't be upset if the next guy who looks at it buys it for $2000.

Thanks for the advice, i appreciate it, I am learning alot in finding a old truck, it ain't easy as i thought it would be, but i am having fun hunting though. I don't think I am going to try to buy the truck since it is in North Carolina and I'm in Missouri. Alittle bit far away for me, but and then again i might buy it.

Speedline.....I sure hope i am a smart bird :)

Jim thanks for the tips

I don't know what kind of truck you're looking
for,but there's an auction next Feb. 14 up by
Brunswick,Mo.And they list this truck on the sale
bill. Quote
1956 chevy 5400 snub nose truck,4&2 speed,14'bed
and hoist,it ran when put in barn.

This could be a good find.
The sale bill is in this weeks ad finder page 7.
or call Iman auction co. 660-388-6235
I'll let you know if I'm going,so I won't bid
against you.

1948chevyman, that is not a bad price if the truck is drivable and has a good body. I paid 4500 for my 46 and it was a driver. The more you have to work with the easier the restoration and in the long run the cheaper. If you buy something for 1000 or under you might put another 5000-8000 in it before it looks decent and runs. The best thing you can do is take a weeks vacation and leave the weekend before to go get the truck and transfer the title. However, make sure if you do this that you talk to the D.O.T. in North Carolina so you have all the right paper work. Good Luck.
