In the chevy cars I have owned over the years , all of them , from the '28 thru to the '55 , had leather seat covers .
The trucks I've owned have all had vinyl seats . '39 thru '56 .
I need to do a repair to the seat in the '40 , and rather than fix the black vinyl that is there , I would like to put leather in . Question is , was this ever originally fitted , and if so ,what was the normal color supplied ?? Black or brown ?

Hi Dusty-
In 1948 (the earliest reference I have) a leather seat was available as an option (263C)for $51.90 for the 3100 series truck. No mention as to color but my guess would be brown.

Wow, what an expensive option for that period.

The seat speedline is refering to was avail. only in the spanish grain leather which was a brown/red color. I do have a 53 accessory book that lists seat covers in different colors. these are made of plaid fiber. Starting in 1954 the seats were avaliable in different colors on the " New Comfortmaster De Luxe Cab "

Thanks for your thoughts guys . The cardboard headliner is black , the door panels are black , I guess I'll just go the non orig. black leather , It will blend in nicely .
I have never been very happy with the way the vinyl is SO hot in summer and cold in winter . I know the leather will help.
A friend did his '37 in leather and it always smells so good. LOL.
Besides , it's nice to sit on :)

Hey Dusty- According to the 1940 Truck Data Book (pg.188).. "Genuine leather seat may be had for the closed cab at extra cost." My guess is brown as I've torn a few trucks apart with remains of brown leather on the seat frame.
